I’ve been filling out scholarships on a few websites (niche, scholarshipexperts, fastweb, etc.) and I just got a weird call. It was from schools.com referring to the form that I filled out online? They wouldn’t give me any other information about why unless I verified my information first. Has this happened to anyone else?
You could google the website and decide for yourself if safe to provide personal information to them.
@4kidsdad I did but have never been on the site previously. I was wondering how they got my information and if anyone else has had any similar experiences.
Yes – stop filling out sketchy forms online. If you’re going to win an outside scholarship, it’ll be local or from a reputable organization like Coca Cola etc.
Schools.com looks like it is a site that matches your info with schools. I don’t see any value in it, personally. I suspect that when filling out info for the scholarship search websites, you agreed to allow them to provide your info to other sites somewhere along the line … no big deal, just ignore it. No reputable group will ask you to verify personal information on the phone as a condition of telling you why they are calling. They have your email address … they can email you if it’s important.
I don’t have a problem with students trying to get smaller scholarships. I have a number of grad students who received $1,500 - $5,000 scholarships this spring from smaller organizations. Just be careful what kind of info you provide when you apply.
