I have this really great fear of caterpilars. every time i see one, I start having a panick attack and I feel like im going to pass out or die. the weird part is- im more scared of dead ones than alive ones.

any suggestions on how I can get over this fear? ( im really serious)

nymets- people like you freak me out. I taught my sister to be afraid of bug when she was a baby so she would never bring any home. She only has an average fear tho- at least she can kill them
I cant even kill them- Im so scared of their guts- My parents and I are looking for a counselor because nothing else is working

This reminds me of my fear of spiders/hornets/wasps/bees- just without the panic attacks. I hate spiders the most...the other day I found one in my room...it died a terrible death.

You can obviously tell that Charlotte's Web had no positive influences on me as a child...

spiders are better- at least they dont wander onto the road and stick out so much that you can see them even if ur 12 feet away- and yes I can see them from that far- i dont take chances
you know, I used to live in a neighborhood with a bunch of trees- so springs were like hell for me- I made my bus driver drop me off in front of my house so i didnt run home screaming- which I did
We finaly moved away to a new neighborhood close to the entrance with 1 tree per lawn- I feel so much better but I think it softened me up b/z when I accidently stepped on one at school- I screamed like someone killed me and had to sit down b/z I almost passed out
my teachers were pretty nice about it when the found out I wanst jking around

every time someone says the word creep or caterpillar- its enough to make me have to catch my breath
in my bio class, we watch this movie with some big insect eating a caterpillar- I dont know how I got through it- I had to keep telling myself that it wasnt real
I have a problem

I kinda hate insects too- i mean they're damn annoying, disgusting looking, and you don't always know where they are- thats the scary part (a bug could be in your food!). I dunno bout catterpillars, but centipedes are the really nasty bugs with tons of legs. Millipedes have more legs, but are just furry and stupid. Centipedes are the really vicious looking ones, with the "claws". Hate spiders, too.

Thing is, don't really fear bugs as much as I once did. Once you go up and smash a whole bunch you stop caring. One: the spider is NOT venomous lol. Two: the worst that can happen is it crawls on you.

BTW one time i hate 1/2 a chocolate covered strawberry and saw a curled up worm inside. I hadnt' taken a bite of it, but was SEVERLY rattled, like what if i had..? Wow that was real freaky...

Anyway you'll get over it jus realize the bugs arent evil, they arent out to get you prob dont even know you're there.

Is being afraid of heights a legitimate phobia that needs treatment? I am deathly afraid of heights in so much that when I'm near a cliff that I know is potentially deadly, my body freezes up and I become an untrusting maniac. Would this be something that requires counselling, because that webpage above doesn't include the fear of heights.

Any such excessive or unreasonable fear would qualify IMO, including excessive or unreasonable fear of heights.

As to counseling, I would advise looking at the bottom of the link to see whether counseling seems appropriate for you now. If not, try challenging yourself first, as described in the link.

I can actually stand heights if I'm all alone... it's when I have others, expecially others who I care about, with me... I freak out. Maybe that's more of a sign of mistrust, which is highly possible.

Probably that they are going to slip and fall, and I'll have to watch them... I don't fear that they'll push me off, but that they'll fall... I don't trust their skills I guess!!!

same here- Im already scared of caterpillars as it is, but when I have people around me I really freak out. I keep thinking that their going to try to joke around and put one on me- might be because hey are laughing half the time
Im going to keep trying to find an affordable counselor near my house
