This is for anybody that goes to Northeastern and wants to help me out...
I am really feeling Northeastern and its my top school right now, I got into the college of science as a bio major and I'm wondering about some stuff that could factor into my decision...

Do co-ops mess up the flow of college (like breaks, friends, and stuff like that) ?

Hows the nightlife and parties and such?

I'm not making my decision based on these things alone, but they are things I'm really wondering about... thanks in advance

1) Social life on co-op is pretty much exactly the same as while in classes, except that you don’t ever have homework, so you can do whatever you want on weekends and not worry about studying/exams/etc. So, in that sense, it can be even better. You can’t hang out for lunch on weekends, like you might be able to while in class, but when you get home at 5ish every afternoon, you’re just like all your friends who aren’t on co-op. It helps that it’s reasonably split half/half… in fall roughly 1/2 your friends will be on co-op, and in spring, the other 1/2 will be on co-op. It won’t be that everyone is in class, and the next semester everyone is on co-op.

Not all, but most people stay in Boston and live on/near campus while on co-op. So, you’ll see your friends year-round, and nothing really changes that much. Some people will go abroad or away for co-op, but at “normal” schools, people go abroad as well, so it’s not that much different.

So, overall, it’s not going to change much. Any differences will be minimal and you won’t really notice. It definitely won’t ruin the “flow” or anything.

2) lots of threads about the social scene on this forum. Depends on who you ask or what you’re into. As far as nightlife, 21+ is pretty awesome. Tons of bars ranging from gross dive bars (hello, Punters) to jock hangouts (symph 8) to city college kids bars (pour house) to dance clubs (liquor store) to nicer clubs (I’m too poor for those). Under 21, pretty much out of luck except for skeevy 18+ clubs.

Thank you Emily for your response. The part about the co-op really helped me to understand the things I was wondering and “concerned” about. As for the second part, you’re right, there are a lot of threads about it haha, my bad. Thanks again for your input!
