Well in my life, hard winter is likely a minimum of 4 months, so 12 weeks. Dog gets walked three times a day by H or I and then we both exercise often 5 times a week outside so plenty of opportunities to use those 80 pairs. I haven’t had an issue with leftovers working the next year. But we aren’t hanging onto them for multiple years.

Of course here we are, not even mid November and the weather has been in the single digits this week - of course OP should do what’s best for her - and weigh all the options presented. Not looking for my option to “win”.

Luckily for us, we don’t walk the dog just to walk the dog – we walk the dog when we take her to the woods for a run-around. The rest of the time, she has a doggie door and one acre to run around on, with an Invisible Fence keeping her safe.

A friend told me that when she dies, she’d like to be reincarnated as one of my dogs.

Did Panera change its bread recipe? I love a good crusty French bread and the last time I got it, the crust was soft. Like when you use frozen bread dough.

I know they’ve changed their chocolate croissant from a French-like pastry wrapped around chocolate bar pieces to a pastry with some nasty chocolate-y spread inside. Ick.

Does anyone have a floor lamp model/style that they would recommend? I’d like to put one next to the sofa where I sit - would like the additional light when I am working on my laptop or reading. Was looking at arc floor lamps (I like the look of these) - but are there features that I should be looking for? Adjustable height, dimmers?

Reusable hand warmers are also available.

If it’s so cold that I would need hand warmers in my ski mittens, my dog wouldn’t go more than 10 feet before refusing to walk and demanding to be picked up ; )

I have a rechargable handwarmer that doubles as a phone charger. Got it from Eddie Bauer https://www.eddiebauer.com/p/82200353/hand-warmers?color=Black&sp=1&size=ONESZE

@arisamp - one important thing is the weight of the base of that lamp. Our arc floor lamp (bought many years ago!) has a base made from a solid chunk of granite which makes the lamp very sturdy. It also has adjustable height, dimmer, and can swivel with ease.

@arisamp Not a reading lamp but I have one of these https://brightechshop.com/products/lightview-pro-led-floor-lamp-black for needlework and love it. Really solid, stable, adjustable. They make arc floor lamps too https://brightechshop.com/collections/floor-lamps/arc

You don’t have to get them at Costco. Even CVS sells smaller packages, to try them out.
My pup would love to be walked 3x/day.

A couple years ago for Christmas H got me some battery powered gloves. I was a scoffer but now I love them! I can’t go for long walks in the winter without them. The batteries are rechargeable and last Christmas he got me another set of batteries so I have a spare. Highly recommend.

I am in South Portland Maine for the weekend. Any recommendations for a good lobster bisque or lobster roll?

Typical ski mittens have gloves inside. They are sewn together so you appear to put your hands into these mittens, but they have toasty gloves inside too. A long stretchy piece goes up your wrist and arm so there is no gap for cold air. Your hands are never, ever cold. Expect to pay $70-$100.

Here are a few that are discounted at Sierra Trading Post. Not all have glove liners, but they all look good:

I always wear mittens when I ski. BUT I also wear the stretchy knit gloves underneath them that are able to be used when texting. That way if I get separated or need to meet up with family, I can take off the mitten and still text while having my hand protected. My mittens have finger dividers inside them that are “sort of” like gloves but have enough room for me to wear these liner gloves beneath them.

Very Happy, some hardware stores, mine included have deerskin mittens with a fuzzy liner. The deerskin is soft and windproof, the fuzzy liner, provides warmth and they are tough for those dog leashes. Otherwise, just a few weeks ago I made a friend buy some Isotoner gloves at Macys. I have had them previously and was impressed with the warmth. Not the leather thin ones, but the ones with fabric and padding around each finger.

I find myself getting confused here on CC re: references to D (daughter) or S (son) and then the numbers after them.

Because I’m an old geezer here (since 2007) “back in the day” I just learned to refer to mine as “D1” (first daughter) or S or “D2”. I don’t feel like we referenced their age so much or their year of graduation.

Now I see things like “D16” and I’m confused - is your daughter 16? Graduated high school 2016? Graduated college 2016??

Am I the only one confused???

Or your 16th daughter?

I am confused also. But at least I know their talking about male or female.

Confusing when they refer to hs grad or college and we can’t tell which.

There are some other online college and college related groups that use that terminology. And TBH it looks like sometimes it refers to the students age and sometimes the graduating class (HS or college). It IS so confusing!
