Pie- I baked a berry pie this afternoon for a dinner tomorrow night. Should I keep it on counter or put in the refrigerator? If on counter covered or not?
Thanks (I’m not a regular pie baker)

Lol, we used to leave lots of things out. Pies, cakes, even soup. Covering the pie may affect the flakiness of the crust. Same with refrigerating, though lots of people advise that. If you leave it out, just a slice of waxed paper or parchment paper, not tucked around it. Make sure it’s fully cooled first. JMO.

Counter. Loosely tent with foil once cooled.

What others said. The only reasons I put my pies in a kitchen drawer are depicted in my avatars. They would try to check a pie out… I don’t trust them when they say their dumpster diving is a thing of the past.

Question: I got my early 20s kid to go to the PCP for an annual check - first time since starting college. PCP who was a NP only ordered blood work for cholesterol (and even that was optional). No urine, no blood workup. Is that normal protocol for a healthy young person?

^ Probably. Surprised even the cholesterol was checked. Don’t remember D’s getting anything routine. A lot of vaccinations, flu shot, and if sick then appropriate lab.

Did anyone notice there is much less outdoor decorating for the holidays? Our neighborhood is really dark. Maybe the boomers are aging here. I’m not interested in decorating any more than a wreath on the door.

I do think Halloween has been more of a deal than it used to be. More decorations for that.

I did a Target run and there was not a tree display at all in the store. I suspect millennials may not be into it either.

Is your neighborhood lit up?

We have plenty of decor up in our area - some weeks before Thanksgiving, even.

Looks like vaccinations, self breast exam, and then paps. Also family history is important.

Thanks. I guess it is just that simple for a young, healthy person. It’s been a long time since I could qualify as such.

OK, I feel really stupid, but how do you buy an audio book for someone? He would want to use it on his phone (he just got an iphone - used to droids if that matters). Would he need to use his apple account to get it?

Yes, there really is not much for a younger person without pre-existing conditions or known higher risk factors based on personal or family history, beyond vaccines, blood pressure, and occasional basic blood work. Also cervical cancer screening for sexually active women.

There may be counseling related items in terms of encouraging healthy habits (e.g. exercise, a diet healthier than the typical four food groups of sugar, fat, salt, and alcohol, etc.), but then most people tend to be resistant to such advice (and some may be triggered into eating disorders). But years or decades of unhealthy habits can increase the risk of many health problems later.

@1214mom, I’m pretty sure you can buy a Kindle audio book on Amazon and have it sent to your son. He’ll need to download the free Kindle app on his phone.

not so random question… how can I send a private message to someone on the forum?

You need 15 substantive posts before you can PM . Garbage posts that serve only to boost post count will be deleted and earn the wrath of a moderator.

New random question -

I found a recipe for a cranberry bread that looks really good…and I could use up my leftover TG cranberries! It calls for orange juice and some orange zest. I have some juice but no fresh oranges to zest. I do have some clementines, though…can I zest a clementine? Or should I just leave the zest out?

I think you could zest the clementine.

Yes to zesting a clementine. Ocean Spray cranberry bread recipe is a very good one. Lemon zest is good in cranberry bread as well.

yes, might even be better:).

I made ten loaves. On one batch, used a lemon for juice and zest. That may be my new favorite.
