I’m a Scotchmallow and Bordeaux fan myself.
I just bought 3 boxes I carefully selected, 1/2 pound each. I had $5 coupon and $25 gift card. My total price was $8+ and she gave us 4 samples for dessert.
I bought a box of mixed truffles, one with a lot of molasses chips, and one that’s pretty eclectic. They are all mostly dark chocolate because H favors that.
I was given a box of Sees. I re-gifted it to the doorman at a friend’s building yesterday as he is always very nice to me.
As for the contest spam, fortunately I am not getting is, but the old app. isn’t working on my phone.
BUT I had the weirdest thing happen on my iphone that I need your collective help with. I keep three “important” icons in that grey area at the bottom of my phone (I have the 8). This morning the email icon was gone. I did everything I could (searched on the web) to get it back, but nothing worked (and no its not accidentally in with another icon, as sometimes happens). BUT, in the “empty” space where the icon should be, if I touch it, the mail comes up! And then when I close the mail, the mail icon shows up momentarily and starts to go back to the bottom of the screen, but then it disappears again! WTH??? Has this happened to anyone else? ANyway to fix it or will it remain invisible?
@jym626. Yes that’s weird. Try the basics and restart your phone. Look for the icons where they are kept like swiping up. If no luck you can always delete your email program and then re-download it and that should make you an icon. Sometimes holding down the home screen there will be a pop up to select an icon for this program. Like to know what works.
YEs, @Knowsstuff - it is really weird! The weird thing is it works fine when I touch the"invisible" aerea. The icon just is… gone!
I just did a hard resent and am waiting for it to power back up… stay tuned…
YAY that worked!! Thanks! I didn’t want to uninstall the mail icon, even if it is supposed to be retrievable.
I do. I used adblock for awhile but ublock Origin (origin is important, there is a ublock copycat out there, and there are adblock copycats too) works better for me.
ublock Origin is open source, so the code is there for all to see. Custom filters. Light and fast.
@JustaMom5465 I’m not getting those pop ups presently but have in the past. I use safari on both iPad and iPhone. I think it mainly happened on the IPad and just with this site. It would eventually just stop. I don’t know why or now.
@jym626… Stuck software sucks. Resetting a computer /phone tends to fix a lot of issues. Glad it worked out. ??
I send my mom peanut brittle every year.
^^ @VaBluebird, I was in Costco today and they had 2lb boxes of peanut brittle for $17. I don’t buy it so can’t be sure but I would guess that’s a great price, just in case you haven’t already picked it up and your Costco carries it.
Good for your mom for eating peanut brittle at her age. I make my own once in awhile and will indulge but I do worry about some of my expensive dental work!
I would re-gift too, but I would feel bad for the person so chances are I leave them in my house long enough for them to go bad then throw them out. I hope NO ONE gives me See’s this year, it literally stresses me out just to look at it, let alone eat it. I cannot understand why people liked it. The chocolate is plain and the texture is…rough, none of the quality I typically love about chocolate. To each their own I guess
New topic. Do you have trouble sleeping when your kids are home visiting? My oldest S has been home for two nights so far. We stayed up talking until 4 am yesterday, and after promising we wouldn’t do it again, we are going to bed now, at 2:30am. I see him so rarely I want to squeeze every minute out of his visit! And now I need to sleep, but I’m still too excited that he’s home to settle down properly. My other S gets home tomorrow. Another night owl, but far less chatty. This is going to be a long (fabulous and exhausting) week!
Enjoy it, @psychmomma! Those late night conversations are totally priceless and worth a little exhaustion, IMO.
I am craving for some exhaustion talking to my kiddo. She comes home this Friday, taking a red eye.
When I picked her up at the airport when she came home for thanksgiving, I cried like a baby. Partly b/c i missed her so much, but mostly, b/c she looked…so bad, like she aged 5 years, seemed like college environment is really hard on her. Her face was breaking out with acne, her back was hunched a little.
She is happy, taking tough classes and doing very well. She loves her roommate and has a decent social life. But her physical appearance just breaks my heart.
Anyone has this experience with theirs?
Yes, and this is not good. When I was a medical student in 1978, I was so proud and sent my parents a picture of myself I recall was in black and white. My mother could not stop telling me on the phone how terrible I looked. To this day that is still in my memory. I knew I looked tired, but I was so proud of myself. I needed support not criticism.
^^ Thanks for that. And sorry that memory stuck with you. Yes I did keep my mouth shut. It just breaks my heart to see her like that.
@Nhatrang this break might just be the “reset” your D needs to take care of herself. That first freshman semester can be a shock to the system! Your eating, sleeping, social habits often change so much. I wouldn’t mention her physical appearance but give her permission to sleep in - encourage it! Have the refrig ready with grab-able healthy snacks. Have some fruit infused water cold in the refrigerator for frequent hydration. One thing freshman often say those first times homes are "wow, a whole refrigerator and cupboards for me to again have at my access! "
Thank you - I will do just this.
She has a job back home that they already booked her to work 30 hours/week until she goes back in Jan 19. She also has a very active social life here, will see how much sleeping-in she gets. Sorry guys for interrupting your regular schedule - I am such a basket case since she left for college in august.

People usually don’t look their best getting off an airplane after a redeye flight.
