We love Bombas! They do send a LOT of marketing emails, though. Occasionally they’ll send a good discount code, or I would opt out.

@conmama / others (I can’t remember who was talking about this) who were looking for 5 inch shorts - it looks like Eddie Bauer has several options, and they are 50% off this weekend.

I used to purchase a fair amount from EB, but they closed the store near me a couple of years ago so I haven’t been since then. I get the impression their quality may have gone down, but for 50% off, probably worth a try if you like the style.

OOPS, I think I posted this in the wrong place - but she will still see it I hope.

We have curbside pickup from the library. The only person I know using it is my daughter, who tends to like the same authors over and over. Guess the rest of us like to browse. If anyone wants a crate of early German royal bios or medieval history, I’ll pay the shipping.

@lookingforward: Amazing…amazing. This mom is smiling, 'cause I know a kid…

Computer Question –
Not sure if this is the right place for this, but here it is –

I may be able to start working from home but I was told that since I only have a Mac at home, I would have to purchase something called IE Tab. Some people have advised me not to do this since IE is outdated and maybe it could somehow mess me up. I could also buy a lower-end PC and hopefully it will be worth it if we can continue to work from home even after the office reopens. I work for a Big City Agency and they won't reimburse anything, and also we have never had any option to work from home before so this is new to everyone.

So any opinions/advice on this IE Tab thing would be great.

PS I am pretty low-tech so I’m a little scared of it all…
Thanks to all.

AFAICT, IE Tab is an add-on to the Google Chrome browser. It doesn’t cost anything. The Chrome browser will run on a mac, as does IE Tab.

What kinds of work things do you need to be able to do? Are there certain web apps you are using that only run in IE?

A low-end Windows laptop can be had for #350 or less, and a Chromebook (which may be all you need depending on what you need it to do) can be had for around $200.

I am also not a techie, but by IE tab do they mean Internet Explorer (now called edge). If so, thats just a search engine.

Internet Explorer is a browser, not a search engine. Edge is a completely new(ish) Microsoft browser that is based on the Chromium open source project (which is also what Google uses in its Chrome browser). It’s not just a new name for IE, it’s a totally different program.

Unfortunately there are still many legacy apps used by companies that were either internally developed and/or were never upgraded to current standards, and therefore use technology no longer supported in current browsers, which is why many companies are still dependent on Internet explorer.

My bad- browser is what I meant @notrichenough (have to use a browser to get to a search engine). I have a lot on my mind. I am retiring!!

That said, you are clearly more versed in this stuff (as I said- this isn’t my area of expertise) but IE just kinda converted to edge on my computer. I use 2 screens- one uses ie/edge and the other uses Chrome.

When Microsoft released Windows 10, they made Edge the default browser in place of IE. You can change it back to IE if you really want to, but unless you have a specific reason it’s better to use Edge.

Thanks. I don’t care too much one way or the other. I mostly use Chrome. Its funny that edge and bing seemed to try to take over being the default settings. That would be a no.

Thanks everyone for your input. We don’t get any choice, we were just told that if we wanted to get access from a Mac to the Office computers, we would need to get this IE Tab. It does seem fairly accepted so I think I don’t have to worry about it doing any damage. We don’t even know if we’ll be allowed to work from home after the crisis is over, if and when that is.
Thanks again.

Can liquid hand soap (for example Mrs Meyers) be used in diluted form to spray for yard pests or is it only detergent that can be used in this manner?

Our Rabbi had been conducting his services from home via Zoom. I have checked in a couple of times through FB, but don’t stay long. So tonight as I clicked on Havdalah services, he is sitting at his dining room or kitchen table where I have seen him before. What struck me was that he was wearing a t-shirt, which had a Hebrew saying on it; no clue what it says. I showed my husband, who said, “He needs to be in a collared shirt.” My kids went to private school and the boys always had to have on a collared shirt, so that is something we are just accustom to.

This are unusual times, but how would you feel about your clergy conducting a service in a t-shirt? If he had been in synagogue, he would have been in a shirt and tie; although if he were leading Havdalah services at camp, he might be in a polo shirt, which would still be collared. Are we just old school?

Yes, but that is no excuse for maintaining some minimal level of professionalism in your job. It takes very little effort to put on a shirt or a pair of pants for a conference call instead of wearing pajamas or whatever, and undertaking some minimal level of grooming, especially if you have customers on a video conference.

IMO.

Our own response will usually reflect the congregation’s perspective. Is the larger group ok with it? Does he always appear in all the rest of the traditional symbolic ways?

When I was in hs, the minister showed up to something very casual in jeans and a T. The people were thrilled. It represented him as a member of the group itself, not simply a role among them. Then again, it was a very liberal church and a time to shift expectations. (Back then, nuns also wore habits and weren’t meant to question authority.)

Just sayin.’

My husband is a pastor. He has been doing zoom church. He has been wearing a button down, collared, dress shirt for the zoom services.

He has skipped the ties while doing zoom church, but otherwise dresses as if he is going to the office or to lead services at the church.

Our rabbi wears collared shirts for Zoom minyan during the week and adds a tie for Shabbat. He was known for occasionally showing up at the synagogue on a regular work day wearing Hawaiian shirts if he knew he didn’t have any meetings…but because I worked there a couple of years, I also know he kept a dress shirt, tie and jacket in the office in case he needed to rush out for a congregant.

It’s like our days in the law firm—everyone kept at least one outfit suitable fo4 court in their office. It’s just how we did things. It was helpful.

Honestly if he was comfortable I am good with it. I am very active at my shul so I know everyone well. I don’t stay active since I don’t like the way the rabbis dress. I stay active since I like their religious message and missions for our shul.

We just had a Men’s Club event on Jewish Baseball players. One of our members has a museum on it and actually flew the kids from the United States to Israel for a tour with their families prior to joining the Israel team last year that came in 6th place. Our Rabbi had on baseball gear. Yes more appropriate. If it bothers you let him know. Maybe his house was warm? I get what your saying but maybe he just wanted to be more relaxed that day?
