HiMom, it it a knitted hat?
D2 accidentally washed a wool sweater in hot water. It came out about a toddler size. I researched online and found products that “relax” shrunken wool. The product we bought smelled like hair permanent solution, which makes sense. It seemed like it might have worked had the sweater not shrunk so dramatically.(It’s been so many years I can’t remember exactly what we bought). Good luck!
It’s not knitted nor felted. It looks like Max Detweiler’s hat from Sound of Music.
Looks like a version of a felted hat. You need a pro, maybe to mail it to, to resize.
About rotating the iPad- will try, but the external keyboard won’t be accessible if I have to turn it.
@dragonmom - some things (like when I want to correct or cut/pastean) do show up sideways on the screen (well the ipad is horizontal b/c of the keyboard I use, with the home button on the right. Why is this, and is there a way to fix it?
Any recommendations here for a kitchen mat? I’d like to get two new ones - stove and sink. Sink is at the corner though in a U shaped kitchen. I see a lot of the anti-fatigue mats online, but don’t know what to get without actually trying them. And not looking to spend over 50$ for a mat either. So, if you have a mat that you really like, I’d appreciate a pointer!
I was going to recommend this mat that I got a few years back and use bedside in the guest room, but alas. https://www.bedbathandbeyond.com/store/product/calm-chef-island-shell-19-5-inch-x-31-5-inch-kitchen-mat/1040981383
Aldis tends to have mats for this purpose and nice quality and cheap. We got one a few months ago and it working out just fine.
We have purchased from:
They are very good quality and many color and style choices. You can get good deals at their online clearance center.
Regarding the library, ours shut down back in March when the governor limited activities to “essential” only. Recently, our state has been opening up some (kind of premature IMO because cases are not declining). With that, they are doing just what you suggest - its like takeout - reserve a book online, they’ll notify you when it is ready. You go to the library and call them. They check out your books for you and place them on the table outside. Once the library worker enters the building again, you’re free to pick them up. To allow for social distancing, the library is only having a few staff members come in per day. Our library was among only 3 doing this statewide as of last week.
The current plan in my state is that this will start happening on June 20. We’ll see – we’ve had last-minute changes to the current (as of May 20) openings. I’m in CT, where things are still very severe and scary.
I have a client who works in a library (though shes is in the high age and health risk group so may not be able to return when they reopen). The biggest thing she mentioned, in addition to having to learn all sorts of new protocols, is to deal with sanitizing all the books that have not yet been returned to the library (the drop boxes were closed when the library closed.)
@dragonmom - you were right about the changes in the touchscreen when I rotate the ipad sideways. Whats up with that and how do I fix it?
At my library, returned books get quarantined for a safe time period, much like my personal mail.
We’re ordering a new, second drop box for the library to increase capacity. I’m always floored by how crazy expensive such things are.
I would think that just leaving the books alone for a couple of days before reshelving or re-checking out would be sufficient. I thought the virus dies after a while on hard surfaces. I could be wrong.
@jym626 - sorry I didn’t answer before, I didn’t see your question. Unfortunately I don’t know how to fix it, I just know my old iPad did that sometimes.
I’m also hoping our library will start letting us reserve real books “to go”. Everything I’ve read indicates that this virus dies after a few days on paper or cardboard. But probably some company will invent a cabinet that shines extreme UV light as it mechanically turns each page, and city lawyers will require its purchase in order to avoid liability. And high schoolers looking for community service hours could man the cabinet and study while each book processes for 10 minutes.
Anyone have bombas socks? I ordered some performance socks for DH and myself, and he noticed (I totally missed it) that they have a right and a left sock! Fortunately I had them on the right (correct) feet!
@jym626 that would completely screw me up about the socks! I don’t have any bombas. I do buy socks in multiples of the same color to make sorting and matching easier, and could just see myself with a whole slew of left-left and right-right pairs!
As if life isn’t hard enough, we have to know right and left socks? No thanks lol
I originally ordered three pair, two of which were the same color. However they seemed to have lost that initial order and when they replaced them they were out of the colors I ordered in my size. Had to pick new colors. Then the original order arrived which they told me to keep. So I have 2 pr of color 1, 2 pr of color 2 and one each of color 3 and 4! DH fortunately got all 4 pr in the same color.
