Since moving to Savannah, I’ve found that preferences tend toward white wines. So Pinot Grigio would work for me!
Albany , NY, not so much. Reds rule.

Our favorite wines are Pinot Gris from the Willamette Valley of Oregon (King Estate, Portlandia) and Sav Blanc from New Zealand (Craggy Range, Fire Road, Greyrock)

Are there any threads for students whose GPAs are under 3.0 (i.e. 2.5 - 3.0)? Also, are there any for kids that have a big trend (1.5, 2.5, 3.8, ?) I searched but didn’t come up with anything…thanks!

@HMom16 I don’t know about threads, but I can tell you from my high school experience over the last 20 years that colleges like seeing upward trends. It’s important that the student explain what happened (illness, family issues, maturity, whatever) and show that the new “them” is who they are. Guidance often helps with their submissions and even phone calls (at our school - apparently they aren’t always as pro-student at other schools).

I’ve seen good luck at Colleges that Change Lives, state colleges, and occasionally, even a “top” school when everything else is there. Kids who turn their situation around and do well in high school often make great college students.

A big key is making sure the foundational knowledge (of subjects) is there. Use the ACT for math - even as practice at home - to see how the foundation for that is. Sometimes there are gaps that need to be filled from the lower GPA days. A motivated student can do this with a good book.

SAT subject tests may be more direct measures of high school course coverage.

https://collegereadiness.collegeboard.org/sat-subject-tests/subjects

The subject test pages have practice questions. The student can try the practice questions for the subject tests associated with completed course work to check knowledge.

Math level 1 = algebra 1 and 2 + geometry
Math level 2 = algebra 1 and 2 + geometry + precalculus + trigonometry

Science and history = after the indicated high school course

English literature = probably best after grades 9 to 11 high school English

Foreign language = higher level completed means better score

@HMom16 - Yes, upward trend is very encouraging! (One of my kids had the reverse kind of trend in high school… not so good. )

Is this a thing? Rugs that look used and worn out?

Great, worn out rugs and ripped jeans. I am so in style!

^^^ Yes, definitely! It’s sort of a muted comfortably worn but still with color and texture look. Honestly though, I 've seen rugs like this for years. It’s not new.

I think I would say they look “worn” but not “used”. Many of them will look a little different depending on which angle you look at them. Sort of like the fabric has a sheen here and there.

^ chosen right, sorta like your family is wealthy enough that they always had Oriental rugs. Now they’re worn out. Clever, in its own way.

Like most artificially aged or antiqued items, it looks nothing like a rug that has seen actual use and aged naturally.

I don’t know that the point of buying them is that you have rugs that look worn but that you have rugs/fabric/colors that are MUTED. Honestly if I see a rug and the colors are too vibrant or bright (not sure that is the right word) it almost looks artificial to me.

The muted is a soft look. It provides visual texture. (I do A LOT of rug looking/buying)

Does anyone know poster Bunsen Burner personally? She seems to be missing lately. I don’t “know” a lot of posters but she was very regular and active. I’m kinda worried.

I presume this is for people who have a decor that the rug matches, but have a rug that is too worn out to continue using.
While it looks a little “fake worn”, I would guess it takes a lot less time to get the “real worn” look than if you had a new rug.

Not my sort of thing, though.

@BunsenBurner is alive and well. It’s nice that you ask. I will let her know. She may well read herself.

Changes here at CC have affected the participation of many - some by choice, some not. It’s a shame.

^^Thanks!

Ah, adding on, I forgot till just now that there was a group abandoning CC to form a meet up someplace else. I guess that explains a lot!

@VaBluebird : ??? (post #4077). Did I miss something?
