Random Questions

Definitely a gift!! Something consumable might be good, or something very standard, like socks. I’m sure smarter minds than mine will have better ideas.

I think a gift too. Something generic like socks or a book you’ve especially liked.

Or an iTunes gift certificate. (Do people still do that?)

I would definitely get a gift, although not sure what.

Oh yes, you’ll feel better if you have a small gift for your guest. Something edible would be nice - almost everyone enjoys receiving good chocolates, local specialties, etc.

I’d think the same kinds of things you might give as a host/hostess gift would also probably work here.

Not random question, but a feel good thing. Google ABC news Twitter giant panda. I have spent the last 10 minutes watching it on a loop. Best feel good thing I have seen in a long time.

Another vote for a gift. A Starbuck’s gift card is a good stand-by in such situations. A winter scarf is also a safe and generic gift idea, if he lives in such a climate. I also like the idea of a pair of wacky socks which seem to be fashionable these days. I’d also send him home with some homemade cookies/baked goods if he were my guest.

Good for you for raising a thoughtful, inclusive son!!

I vote for socks, too. They’re such a ‘mom gift’ and right for this holiday, for a young person who can’t get home. But something else, too, so he doesn’t get just one thing if everyone else is opening lots.

You can buy an Amazon gift card in the drug store or supermarket or Target.

Definitely a gift. I bought the boyfriends hydroflask pint glasses. Swell water bottles are another option. Add a book of some kind or socks.

Happy sox; colorful, can buy individually or in a package at Nordstrums or bloomies–on sale. Chocolates from a local candy store.

I thank all the local families who invite children who can’t make it home for holidays. Usually, this occurred for T-day. How lonely to. To be able to go home for Xmas.

Sharing about the gift I put together for our Christmas guest (#1039)…“Bar in a Jar”. Place several sample sized liquor bottles in a wide-mouth jar with lid. It’s so cute! I put some colorful paper confetti in the bottom of the jar, which just happened to have a red lid. Perfect for a young man! I saw it on the Today Show and easily picked the items at the liquor store. Makes a cute gift for a host as well. I also got him some “Happy Socks” from Macy’s…He was very appreciative and is a wonderful guest!

^^^^ Great gifts!!

When I’m walking my dogs in the woods I think of all sorts of things to ask as random questions on this thread. Now, I don’t remember a single one.

LOL VeryHappy - maybe I can help:

why is it we when we’re walking, driving, weeding the garden we have all kinds of questions but when we get near pen/paper/computer we can’t remember any?

We might have to start a new thread for “rhetorical questions.”

Lol. I made my mind up I need some same sized storage bins to stash…?? It was a revelation to solve some problem.

You know where this is going. I was at a place with the right variety of sizes and not expensive but can’t remember what I was going to store.

It’s distraction. I know it is.

Heck I can’t remember why I walked into a room sometimes!

is it normal to start forgetting things? any way you guys combat that? i feel like ive been so forgetful lately.

Write things down as soon as they occur to you. I am usually at my computer, and when I think of something I need to do or want to look up or someone I need to call, I’ll immediately write it down. Otherwise it goes the way of the dodo bird and never gets done.

Normal to forget when you’re balancing other things.
