I say, “Alexa, remind me to …”
Also, taking photos and screenshots can be helpful to jog memories. Notes are very handy.
I constantly add to or start new notes on my phone. Definitely more forgetful/distracted than was normal 5 years ago.
Sometimes I think the forgetfulness/distraction has less to do with age and more to do with computers and connectivity via various technology that has eroded our ability to concentrate and made us more ADD-like. Yes, we have electronic reminders and such but I think its counter productive.
Yesterday I was cleverly adding notes to my phone and noticed notes that I added cleverly awhile back and forgot about!!
^That’s why I rarely use “notes”. I use “reminder” and set it for a time or “when I arrive home”.
Can someone tell me…Why does the Amazon app on my Nexus tablet think I live in Japan? All my search results are priced in yen! It only seems to happen when I use the “main” search bar… If I drill to, say, the home & kitchen department, things are fine. I’ve googled and looked through my settings and it’s set to USA…It’s just really strange…
Bumping up this thread because I need help –
(Not major help. Minor help.)
DS and his fiancee are living in North Dakota for the year – and maybe longer, if they accept the jobs that have been offered to them for next year. So, it’s February. In North Dakota. It’s light only about nine hours a day. I’d like to send them something that will make them happy. Any ideas??
Fattening things are out, as they’re “shedding for the wedding.”
These seem to be all the rage lately - maybe buy them a pair of tickets? Something to do in the dead of winter with zero calories: http://trappedinbismarck.com
This may not make them happy, but maybe healthier - A light box for SAD…Even if they don’t really suffer from SAD the Vitamin D is important. Or how about bringing out their inner child…
@doschicos: Great idea, but right now they are in Fargo – three hours from Bismarck. But next year they might be “only” an hour and a half away (in the middle of nowhere, in a god-forsaken town of 15,000), so I will hold on to that website!
@Anxiousmom1 – Thanks, but all those ideas take up huge amounts of space which they don’t have!!!
@doschicos: How do you know about these things??
I’m bored and I’m googling.
@VeryHappy Figured it would be nice for them to do something out of the house in the winter. Living in a cold climate with short days, I know how nice it is to go out and do something different, especially when someone else is paying!
@VeryHappy - we have done 2 room escapes and have loved them. So much fun!
Thanks for the recommendation. I think it would be something different for them. (Heck, anything out of the house – that’s not at work or the dog park – would be something different for them.)
Not quite the same as light box and also smaller. Smart lightbulbs that will gradually come on and simulate sunrise. Great when winter has you getting up in pitch black dark. D uses something that takes any lamp and does this (kind of like a timer at plug) which also works but smart light bulbs look cooler and some have a color spectrum. Some are stand alone with clocks etc but I think you can just get bulbs.
Techie question from a non-techie person: i just erased a ton of stuff off my hard drive. I know its on my backed up removable hard drive if i ever want to access it.
Question: when i backup my hard-drive next, will my current hard drive be backed up (without those files) and saved as it is now, replacing the old backup with those files? or will those old files be still on my old physical backup disc?
Is there a way to tell the backup just to back up new things that have been added?
See - I’m super un-techie! but would love help as I’m starting to regret cleaning up all of those files!
@bgbg4us - This is only a somewhat educated guess…so take it with a grain of salt.
I think it depends on your backup program and your settings. However, I would guess the most likely situation is that your backup program will only update files that have changed and add only new ones. That would leave backup copies of the files that you deleted still on the backup. But there may be a maximum duration it would keep those files (6 months? a year?) until it would then delete those files.
Depending on the program you might be able to simply explore the backup and see what files are there. The backup program that comes with Windows lets you do this. (It also works pretty much like I described, and has a setting that says how long to keep older versions of files).

What do you wear to run around town in the summer months? I realize I have too few pairs of shorts but I’m beginning to wonder if A Woman My Age should stop wearing shorts anyway. Capri pants? (I’ve never liked them on me because I’m very short.) T-shirt style dresses?
