Has anyone that put if for a random roommate heard who their roommate will be?

You won’t hear about random roommates until late July-early August

Thanks soccergurl…wish it was sooner but totally understand.

Glad you asked this, I’ve been wondering the same thing. Most of my friends going to different universities found out their (random) roommate in May! IU Housing is just very unique in the way they operate it seems.

Really this is my only complaint about the entire IU acceptance/financial aid/orientation/registration process. Would like to know who I will living with for the next 9 months.

Coste: same here, my friends attending other schools have also know since May

My DD is attending IFS and we figure she will be lucky to get roommate info before she leaves. Which means coordination is all but impossible. (sigh) Thankfully she rolls with the punches, mama… Not so much! :-)

mama1317 we are in the same situation! I also noticed the deadline for requesting bed lofting and fridge rental delivery were both something like Aug. 1, which doesn’t make sense because you need to coordinate these things with a roommate, who you might not even know by the deadlines! Impatient mom of an IFS DD here too…

Yeah, it’s later than most schools but for 99% of people, it ends up not being a problem. I think they do it that way so that people can’t complain and try to switch because their roommate is ‘different’ than them–you’ll see threads pop up on the main CC boards about kids having roommates of different races, ethnicities, religions, etc.

By releasing roommates later, it’s harder for students to develop preconceived notions about them and they likely go into move-in in much better shape

A friend of mine told me that when she was at Princeton years ago a girl down the hall’s mother was upset that her daughter had a black roommate and made her switch. It turned out that roomate was Michelle Obama.

The KLLC Facebook group administrator stated that KLLC residents will find out their roomates between 7/15-7/25. Not sure if the same timeline is for non-LLC residents too or if LLC residents are notified before everyone else, but at least it’s a tentative date?

That’s good, she is in Academic LLC, So maybe there is hope!

Soccergurl is probably right about not wanting complaints. At orientation there were a lot of complaints about what dorms students got. I am just curious to know who I will be living with for the next 9 months.

Just be patient and enjoy your summer. Seriously, don’t worry about it, it will be fine. Everyone before you has managed to last without knowing until August, you will too!

KLLC FB admin just said all roommate info and dorm numbers should be released on the 22nd.
