what is the consensus so far?

Fame:
1. Duke
2. Brown = Dartmouth

Prestige:
1. Brown
2. Dartmouth
3. Duke

Perceived quality:
1. Dartmouth
2. Brown
3. Duke

Completely random guesses on my part (I live in the pacific NW).

Lol I think the overall consensus is there is no consensus. I.e., they are all equal.

Brown
Dartmouth
Duke

on both accounts overall. Majors, like BME or Envronmental or Physics, can change this around

Overall academic prestige:
Dartmouth
Duke
Brown
Rice
Chicago
JHU
Northwestern
Wash U

JHU, Chicago, Rice, Nortwestern or WUStL

Prestige (not fame):
Brown
Dartmouth
Duke
Chicago
Northwestern
WUStL
Rice
JHU

Education:
Chicago
Dartmouth
Brown
WUStL
Duke
Northwestern
Rice
JHU

Prestige, Fame, Education ALL in one

btw who is it who ranks prestige? in this forum it seems to be a euphemism for personal preference.

Duke

Brown

Darthmouth (smoking hippies lol naw j/k but still all it has going for it is status as Ivy League. Ask a layman and I'll bet 90% have never heard of it)

Most Prestigious= Definitely Dartmouth. Followed by Duke. Who would possibly want to go to a college that shares its name with a color?

I've never really liked the school of Brown that much, but I've always liked the name. It's so simple it just feels like there has to be more to it in an old New England traditional sort of way.

Tally (average prestige rankings in this forum):
1. Brown 1.59
2. Dartmouth 1.95
3. Duke 2.45

From India - > Duke >>>>>> Dartmouth >>>>>>>>>. ......>>>>>>Brown

U say Brown, ur asked 'What kinda idiot would name a college BROWN'

illumin4atus- haha are you really saying that "darthmouth" (sp) has smoking hippies over brown? you seem to be a little misinformed...

illumin seems like an international w/o much experience with the actual schools.

Maybe this is because I live in Florida...but when I was looking for colleges to apply to last year...the most prestigious to me were:

1) Duke
2) Brown
3) Dartmouth (I had never heard of it...the only Ivies I knew last year were HYP, Brown, and Columbia...I though UPenn was a state school lol)

i spelled it that way on purpose :) and there's a reason why I said "j/k" next to it . . .

and slipper seems to be a misinformed person trying to appear wise and sagacious on an online forum by judging others comments by their agreement with his viewpoints. I believe the term is ethnocentric? I'm from Charlotte and have been living in the US for the last 7 years. Not agreeing with your point of view in no way suggests taht I don't have experience with schools.

btw kramer u spelled my name wrong too :)

Duke, Dartmouth, and Brown are all on par with one another.

Prestige:
1) Brown, Dartmouth
3) Duke

Overall:
1) Brown
2) Dartmouth
3) Duke

I think to the general population, it goes Duke (cause of sports),Brown, Dartmouth, in terms of prestige. There are kids in my school (in New England) who had no idea Dartmouth was in the Ivy League. I think anyone who knows anything about colleges knows that Dartmouth and Brown are quite evenly matched in terms of quality and prestige (its just personal preference) and Duke is behind them.

Prestige: (From Poor side of LA)
1. Brown
2. Dartmouth
3. Duke
Majority of kids don't know can't tell these schools from a Northern Cal community college.

Antarius - where in india are you from.. Bihar?!

Surprising that the people youve talked to dont know about brown..

My personal rating would probably be

Brown

Duke

Darthmouth

Brown was one of my top choices, Duke was in the middle, and didnt even apply to Dartmouth..
