Rank each of Cornell's schools according to prestige:

It really depends on the location. In Taiwan, CALS goes on the top if you really want to talk about prestige. Engineering probably ties with CALS. Our former president was a grad of CALS and his research paper formed the foundation of Taiwanese economy.

i agree with shifu yoda...

and as blair waldorf said everyone knows that HYP are the holy trinity...

cornell is basically where the rest of the upper middle class goes...remember that HYP together probably have as many spots as cornell...

prestige comes from selectivity...since cornell is easier to get into (by sheer size of acceptances) it's perceived as less exclusive!

^haha i love how you are using blair waldorf as an example! gg is the best show on tv

but you argument about selectivity=prestige makes sense. and that thought process often spurs topics such as this one

Ugh some people really need to pull their heads out of their asses about "prestige", and that includes your parents, OP. I don't care if I'm being rude, your family sounds dumb and since I'm not related to them, I can say that.

Until I created an account on CC, I never knew some people were such d-bags about prestige, but now I realize there are people who regularly masturbate to the USNWR rankings nightly. BTW, I'm not talking about your family OP, I'm just speaking in general about comments I've seen on CC. Some of these kids who study for the SAT's all day and have a 4.0 are really lacking in common sense and need to get a serious reality check. Only 1/4 of people in this country get a BA/BS, and fewer than 1% at top schools, so some of these elitists who look down on "lower" Ivies like Cornell need to stop jacking off to college rankings and get real. Even Blair Waldorf realized Brown, the "lowest Ivy" was a cool place in the end!

Sounds like you have a lot more common sense than your parents - kudos on that - so apply where YOU want to go. Your first choice is CAS anyway.

^Amen 10 chars.

I actually take back the part about your family sounding dumb, that was kinda mean, sorry. What I meant to say is what they said about certain colleges at Cornell being "jokes" was incredibly ignorant. If they think that lowly of Cornell schools like HumEc, I can't imagine what they think of 99% of colleges in the world. Where do your friends and family go to school anyway, that they think so poorly of Cornell? I imagine they're all Harvard grads?

^^ gotem.. 10char

haha stargazerlilies, great posts.
sorry for being random, but i really hope you get into cornell as a transfer. seriously, i've been reading your posts frequently in the cornell board and you seem like you're so well connected w/ the school :)

I love how deferrees/people who have yet to receive their decision (stargazer) have the most Cornell pride :)
I didn't lose my Cornell "pride", but I did lose my Cornell confidence.
Yay for being deferred.

LOL stargazer! Agreed, agreed, AGREED on all counts.

I got accepted an I have pride, geeze,

and how come no one likes my aleksey veyner reference, acceptd and him are twins

hahah thanks, onlyiknow. if only "well connected" meant daddy is a millionaire Cornell alum. dammit, he had to go to Dartmouth...

No one has any school spirit in my current college, so I take out all my pride on Cornell lol :) it's not really about pride though, just no one likes snooty elitists

Ouch, why's engineering a 7? =[

i hope some people could acknowledge my humor (even though Cornell has the best engineering school among the ivies)

I'm a sophmore at cornell and this is the general consensus on the DIFFICULTY of each school (people will know how hard you worked based on which school you went to, but there is not really a huge difference between Engineering and AAP, a little less work for those in Arts than in the first 2. There is a big drop off after arts in terms of ease--If kids in arts want an easy A they take courses in CALS, like AEM courses. I'm in Arts but my roomate is in CALS (he doesn't have as much work) and my other two roomates from last year were in Hotel and they never did anything but party 6/7 nights of the week (mostly busy work in hotel school), not bringing it down, just letting you know its easier. I'm in Arts btw so I may be biased but kids in CALS tend to agree that arts is harder and kids in arts tend to agree that engineering is harder.

^ I'm surprised that Arts is considered so difficult. In my college, Humanities courses are considered to be the easiest by far, and Science ones more difficult, so I figured Arts would be considered an easier choice compared to say, CALS, which is mostly science, while Arts has all the humanities majors, plus a couple science ones.

I'm debating between HumEc PAM and CAS Econ, and I need a high GPA for Law school, so....hmmmm (just kidding, I wouldn't pick a school based on that).

tennisjj36: I don't know if HumEc goes below Hotel, those kids are always trying to sell me raffle tickets. How hard is that?

Hmm..

I studied in both CAS and CALS and found the CALS courses to be far more difficult. But, then again, they were mostly more technical whereas CAS was more subjective.

Either way - it depends on your course of study. But AAP and engineering tend to be the biggest overall workloads (though programs within CAS and CALS can be equally as rigorous).
