im interested in the bio and society major offered by cornell in three of its undergrad colleges. since im from ny (and of course, admission to CAS is extremely competitive) im primarily interested in either CALS or HumEc.

i was originally interested in humec because it focuses more on science AND it's relationship with society and wasnt solely focused on science as CALS.

but i realize i don't really have too much info on it.
so does anyone have any info to help me make my decision?

Just so you know, CAS and CALS have similar admission rates. So I wouldn't make your decision based on which is less competitive. Saving tens of thousands in tuition, on the other hand, might be a good deciding factor.

I can't help you with the specifics of Bio and Society. Sounds like you might like the Hum Ec angle more, though.

The courses you'll take for the major are exactly the same...regardless of the college you study in. The biggest difference are the graduation requirements. From your previous posts...sounds like you'd benefit from the HumEc angle.

Yeah, you're a bit like me (pre-med) in that either HumEc or A&S would work. I'd go for the former, personally. It sounds like you're exactly the kind of kid they're looking for.

a LOT of my extracurriculars are science related, so im worried i'll have trouble expressing a strong interest in human ecology if i appear to fit in better with the more science-oriented CALS

however, im also involved in a lot of community service activities, which ties into my interest in not only the scientific aspects of the world, but a lot of the social issues and problem-solving. thats why human ecology appeals to me as much as CALS does.

do you think that it'd be a better decision for me to consider human ecology or cals? i hear theres even an option to apply to a primary and secondary option???
