Why isn't Thomas Jefferson High School on this list?
....last I checked it was the #1 high school in the country!

well that's because you don't even read what's above the list and just what's in the list LOL

Best High Schools: The Public Elites | Newsweek Best High Schools | Newsweek.com

TJ's in the list of schools that were too good to make the list haha this page was posted just above the rankings list

Oh ok, that's good :)

my school isnt even on the list.

IMO the Newsweek list is mostly useless. It does not include many of the very best high schools in the Country which are public magnets and private schools, for starters. And then they base the rankings on number of AP's taken per capita without regard to the scores received in the classes.

What it does do, however, is give a fair view into whether a high school is competitive or not. Many kids posting on CC call their high school very competitive which must be how most kids view their schools.

like I said hmom5, Newsweek has a link posted above the rankings list of elite public schools that were so good, they didn't think it was fair to compare with the schools on the list.

Also I agree that it would be highly unfair to compare public and private high schools together in the same ranking list.
