rank Stern majors by popularity.

--How are grades distributed in stern?

--Is it true that finance is that most popular stern major?

--If so, does that mean it is also the most competitive?

--Do you have to major in finance if you go to stern to get into ib, or can you major in something else (still at stern)?

From what we’ve seen on this board:

FINANCE

everything else.

Vast majority of Sternies want IB. It makes sense since they’re a great program and they are in NYC.

I don’t know how competitive the finance major is, but recruiting for IB jobs there is as competitive as anywhere.

I’m an incoming freshman at NYU Stern, here it goes…

I heard there’s a “Stern Curve” but I do not know the details of it. I believe only 20% of the students in each class can receive an A

Finance is definitely the most popular major at Stern…70% of the students chose it as their major (including me)

It definitely means that it’s the most competitive

IB recruiters will most often take students with finance backgrounds because they are generally more competitive anyway and have been introduced to certain types of material that other majors do not. Theoretically, if you’re serious about being an IBanker, corporate analyst, etc, it makes most sense to have a BS in finance because it means your actually interested in the line of work and can handle the material.
