Just as the title says! I’m on break - ask me any lingering questions on your mind about Duke, campus life, my experience, etc. etc. , and I’ll do my best to answer
Hi! I was admitted ED and am wondering how important it is to bring a car and/or bike. I live a few hours away but the expense is making us pause.
Hey congrats, and welcome You definitely don’t need a car - besides, parking is outrageously expensive! Simply using uber to go places occasionally will be much more economical, and convenient. As for a bike, the overwhelming majority of kids don’t use bikes. Unless you really like biking, don’t bring one, as the campus isn’t really bike friendly anyway.
Let’s say a student was considering pursuing a math/science major at Trinity and starts taking classes along a major track. Suppose they stumble a little at first…what sort of resources might be available for a student on a major (i.e. not pre-med) track? Office hours? Tutors?
Thanks for the info! Would you say it’s possible to have a fulfilling social life if you aren’t really into greek or partying?
Help! Will you go look at my post? It’s called “Super WEIRD Applicant…do I even have a chance?” Should be lower on the “Recent posts” chain. There’s two on accident- make sure it’s the long one. I’m sure if you’re at a school like Duke you might know some students with stories similar to mine. It’s long I know but I would so appreciate any advice you can give.
@BB1313 Most certainly! I myself am not greek-affiliated, but I live with a group of 13 really close friends in the same dorm. We lived together our freshman year, and since then, we have been very good friends. And I’ve never been a “party-hard” kinda guy, but I’ve definitely been to a few college parties and had fun - and I’ve never drank a single drop of alcohol! So don’t worry, you’ll find somewhere to fit in
@bucketDad There is an academic resource center on campus which will help you deal with such situations. It is completely normal for kids especially at places like Duke, to struggle with their classes, especially early in college. In addition, most classes offer ample office hours, and for many classes, there are even TA’s hired by the department to tutor individual students!
@meggieistall55 I’m not an adcom…but sure, I’ll take a look if that makes you happy
awesome, thanks!! I have another question, sorry-- would you say pratt and trinity students separate themselves socially, or kind of mix together?
Nope, Trinity and Pratt kids live in separate dorms, we dine in separate dining halls, and study in different libraries, and attend different parties. There is absolutely no interaction between Trinity and Pratt kids, and we occupy our separate spheres at Duke. When we introduce each other, we show our Duke cards to verify if we belong to the correct college, and if we don’t, we never see each other again.
