Rate me EC's Please?

I have just finished my sophomore year in high school and I was just wondering if I need to add/focus on any extracurricular areas. Any feedback would be helpful! I am aiming for Ivy League schools and other selective institutions.

Science Olympiad- One year member. Placed third in the state in my event.

Beta Club- One year member. I plan to be secretary next year and president my senior year.

Mu Alpha Theta- One year member. I plan to run for a leadership position my senior year.

FBLA- Two year member. I have won (different events) first place for each year I have attended.

Marching Band- Two year member. I play the keyboard for my school’s competitive marching band. I have had solo’s both years and we have marched at Nationals twice. My freshman year we placed 21st in the nation and 3rd in our class. My sophomore year we placed 14th in the nation and 2nd in our class.

Concert Band- Two year member. I play the tuba in my school’s Wind Symphony (our top band). I also accompany and solo on the piano whenever necessary. This past spring, my band had the opportunity to play in Carnegie Hall where I was a featured soloist.

Piano- I have played the piano for 13 years and intend to apply to various international competitions. I have been prepping for these competitions for almost 3 years now.

Varsity Swim Team- Two year member and two letter. I will likely qualify for state next year (I was one tenth of a second off this year)

Running- Although I am not on my school’s cross country team (the season conflicts with marching band), I have pursued my own running career. I have won various road races in distances ranging from 5 kilometers to half marathons. I have also completed two marathons. I placed 4th in the 16 and under age group of the Philadelphia Marathon with a time of just over 4 hours. I plan to complete 3 more marathons by the time I graduate.

Triathlons- I have won various triathlons around my area, both on and off-road. I placed first in the southeast region in the 19 and under age division of the Xterra American Tour. I was not able to attend nationals due to financial and timing complications. I am currently preparing to defend my title.

Business- I have owned my own business for about 6 years now. I look after neighbor’s plants and animals when they are out of town. I earn over $1,000 a year, and I have recently expanded into other neighborhoods and outsourced jobs to other kids.

Investor- I have owned an investment portfolio for 8 years and my investment has doubled (is this relevant to a college application?)

Thanks again for your feedback and please remember that I am just a sophomore. I plan to continue participating in all the clubs and hobbies listed (except possibly Science Olympiad) for two more years. Post a link and I will try to chance/rate back!

You seem to be very impressive and well-rounded so far. I think it would be best to focus on the ECs your have now…

You’ve managed your investment portfolio for eight years? What age did you start, 9? Were you actively trading investment securities or did you have someone else manage it?

@outlooker I had a market obsession when I was about 8. I was in the third grade and was fascinated by the concept of a stock market. I studied different funds to invest on a principle my parents provided and have been actively diversifying and managing my account ever since. Do you think this is relevant to college applications?

These EC’s are great and all, but make sure to focus on the activities that you are passionate about. Colleges don’t like to see a laundry list of EC’s

Your EC’s are good, but they are kind of all over the place. While it’s good to have a variety of interests, colleges like to see an applicant who focuses on a specific passion. What is your intended major?

@CCuser528 I am planning on majoring in business however I have recently been enjoying my science classes. I tend to categorize my extracurriculars into business, sports, and music but perhaps they are still all over the place? I truly enjoy all of these activities and do not intend to stop any of them in an interest to please a specific college. Thank you for your comment though!

You’re on the right track and the investment thing is a plus if your going into business.
