University of Maryland College Essay
University of Maryland college park is a well renowned institution throughout the country. It is a beautiful institution with what looks like positive and productive surroundings. College park is arguably the most prestigious university in the state of Maryland. Throughout my academic career I’ve always harbored this little bit of faith in enrollment and acceptance to college park.
Currently, I am a sophomore undergraduate student at the University of Maryland eastern shore as a biology major. My academic adviser had told me that I am close to the halfway point of my academic career and I felt that it is time to make some suitable changes. Some of these changes include moving to a nearby university while earning a high quality degree. Another of these changes is to discipline myself through the university’s undergraduate biological science program in order to prepare me for a productive role in healthcare as a physician assistant.
As a young and active individual, I will bring leadership and character to your prestigious institution by taking advantage of the productive resources that would surround me. I always try to push my academic limits in order to progress towards my long term goals of becoming a

Physician assistant. If enrolled, I will be an enthusiastic asset to such groups as the African Student Association and intramural soccer. The biggest contribution that I would make is to the university’s undergraduate biological sciences program by demonstrating hard work equipped with being a terp. Apart from this, I look forward to being a part of a greatly diverse family and finding a new home that is not too far from home.
It needs to be more specific. The essay tells me barely anything about you and what makes you different from the other applicants. Also, over half the essay is so general it could be used by any other applicant and be equally truthful. Personally, I’d cut the whole bit about prestige and find more concrete reasons for why Maryland is a fit for you.
Also, could you post the prompt?
What do you mean by prompt @Matt846
I wanted to lead some of the information about me to my resume
I mean what is the question UMD wants answered? What do they tell you to write your essay about?
A resume lists your objective accomplishments and activities, but you can use the essay to expand on that and show something about yourself that can’t be conveyed in the resume.
Please describe your past academic experiences and your reasons for wishing to enroll to Maryland at this point in your academic career.
@Matt846 The transfer application only requires a 300 word maximum essay about the student and their academic goals.
Personally, I wouldn’t start with the general parts about UMD. Start with the part about yourself and why you want to transfer. You could adjust some of the beginning parts into the essay, but they are more interested in you and what you will do while you are at UMD and what you will do after.

what are my chances of getting in.
where do I stand in acceptance
I would say to focus more on how YOU became in love with umd and how YOU think it’s prestigious qualities can help you further your career path instead of stating facts of it being a renowned institution blah blah. The admission office knows that people apply because it’s such a good school but they want to know why you think it will be a better fit for you than you going to another university. Talk about HOW you display leadership and show them HOW you are a hard worker or push your academic limits. Maybe your background or activities on your resume can be good examples to use in your essay to display the qualities that are similar to Terps. Your gpa is a bit low but you might get in with a great essay! @takashi13
its already too late to submit @Purple205
Lol oops sorry I didn’t know. I’m sure you’ll get in! @taskashi13
