Because I'm a Sophomore, next year, my class will be the first class taking the NEW SATs!! Which are supposed to be easier, also colleges won't be able to compare the scores as easily, so I doubt they will count as much..? I will take the ACT too.

I would love to be an ESL teacher (abroad, perhaps), because languages and teaching are a huge passion of mine and I don't think I could pick just one language!

I get your intent, but just to be sure you understand, there is no such thing as “being sure” when it comes to HYP type admissions especially.

Otherwise, there really is no such thing as rating a resume for the purposes you postulate. There are far too many variables and assumptions involved. The advice is really quite simple. Do very well in your GPA, take the most challenging schedule your school allows, do several EC’s that you feel “real” about, and show at least some leadership. One can presume high test scores but of course there are no real numbers until the time comes. But then there are your essays, your recs, awards you might (or might not) win, etc. Trying to boil HYP or any high level admissions down to a formula, while a popular pastime that has generated many threads and not a few books. is futile. Or perhaps it is better to say it is so simple it isn’t worth all that conversation.

It is good to have a plan, don’t get me wrong. Just make sure the plan is because it is what you really want, not just what you think you “have to do” to get into this school or that one. You are no doubt a very good student. Assuming you keep up the grades and do well on the standardized tests, there is no reason you won’t get into several excellent schools when the time comes. Just focus on doing well, and the rest will fall into place.

They are people who are near sure things for the best colleges. Sure, not very many, but they are. Consider like IMO gold medalists, intel science finalists, etc. of course very rare but that’s the point.

They still get rejected for soft factors. Probably on the scale they’d get a 9 for any particular Ivy League.

There are only a handful of people in the country that you could say were sure bets for the Ivy League. Given that most people who apply to selective colleges are qualified you probably shouldn’t assume your chances anywhere are much better than the acceptance rate. That means under 10% for most of the top colleges. Luckily there are hundreds of great colleges, with your interest in languages you might want to look at Middlebury for example.

I was considering Middlebury… But it would be very time consuming during the valuable summer.

@mathmom‌ Should I take 5 online college courses (1-2 of them being a foreign language and definitely one related to linguistics),. OR take a language other than the 3 I do at school at Middlebury in addiction to 2 online college courses??? What do you think would be more impressive? Also— it would be very difficult to keep up with Volleyball and Yearbook workshops along with volunteering during the summer that I would normally fit in… But mastering another language does set me apart… but how much???

I think three languages is more than enough. Spend some time smelling the roses. If you were going to do anything extra I’d take the linguistics course and see what you think. If that turns out to be an interest there is another list of schools where that is a strength.

I’m into linguistics for sure, and have LOVED teaching my whole life and have always been inspired other cultures and languages soooo as a way to combine my interests, I decided in 6th grade I wanted to teach ESL abroad. I have been tutoring in ESL ever since and still love it. @mathmom‌ so I’m sure that’s the path I want to take.
