theanxiety #soonover #yay

Well… That’s my birthday. Hopefully it will be the best birthday present ever, though after being deferred EA I’m not going to be surprised or too upset if I don’t get good news.

Please don’t make pi day into cry day.

Oh god oh god oh god less than a week

Four more days, what did you guys do your supplementary essay on?

My daughter seemed to have enjoyed and spent a lot more time on her supplemental writing for U of C than for any of the 15 other schools she applied to. That is a credit to the U of C admissions officers who drafted such questions in my opinion. If you are referring to the final essay, where you can pose and try to answer your own question… her essay was very introspective… as she asked, “Can we define the nature of the Infinite or God or even confirm their existence?” To me, her essay was very clever and likely took the readers in a direction they were not expecting. Again, I give U of C credit for that… because by comparison all of her essays for other colleges seemed more predictable or at least they took less chances. We are of course hopeful that U of C also enjoys her writings and that they help to secure her admission there in 4 days.

I chose the “You are you and your what?” option. I said that I was me and my circadian rhythm, since I’m a night owl, and I talked about how it impacted my life. I thought I did a decent job, if I do say so myself.

I wrote about a joke. I thought it would be noticed because that was a hard topic to write a full essay on while providing a good joke.

All of the topics are considered equal…

@WWWard

I feel like, with the crowd that UChicago attracts, given its reputation of being very intellectual, I wouldn’t be surprised if many of the essays followed a similar route of dealing with very abstract, thought provoking questions such as the one your daughter chose.

Then again, maybe you mean that she wrote something satirical or did not answer the question with a traditional intellectual discussion.

All of the topics are considered equal…+1

But I personally agree that the joke one is the hardest.

tehCheat: No… it was certainly a traditional intellectual approach, attempting to break it down to pure reason and what can be known for certain. Of course I am sure that such an approach would also be satirical to some readers :)

2 more days, any thoughts. Excited or nervous?

@Dontor

I was deferred EA, so I’ve accepted the fact that I’m not getting in. As such, I’m looking forward to getting a final decision. Count me as excited.
