It seems as though the people who have received the letter were accepted...I don't know, it's hard to tell cause I know other schools, Duke for example, that would send a fin aid incomplete letter and still reject their students. However on the Swarthmore letter it says "While our admissions Office is considering applications for admission to the Class of 2009, our Financial Aid Office is reviewing financial aid applications separately- ::highlight:: applications are reviewed completely SEPARATELY but at the SAME time." I got the letter myself. Apparantly, they're missing some of my forms. You should email/call them and clear it up. If anything, it looks like a good sign.

FYI- I got the letter. It is what they call an early admit. They say the regular acceptance package will follow in early April like all other admitted folks. Also, they are picking up the tab to come and visit Swarthmore. They do it to recruit students whom they feel they want to most aggressively pursue. I believe Byerly noted that these are the group of kids most likely to be gobbled up by the Ivys.

Are you what could be considered an ethnic minority? I know these are applicants that they want to more aggressively pursue, I'm just not sure what exactly about them makes a student one they want to more aggressively pursue. I'm just really curious if ethnicity is a factor.

i got an early write and im a minority (pakistani). my stats and everything are good, but i dont have anything that REALLY makes me stand out at all above everyone else, and i wasnt really expecting to get in, much less getting an early write..so im convinced my ethnicity played a really big role in it

From what I've heard, early letters are sent to athletes and to students that would potentially enhance the diversity of the student body. I don't think white middle class students, no matter how accomplished, fit that category...

"They do it to recruit students whom they feel they want to most aggressively pursue. I believe Byerly noted that these are the group of kids most likely to be gobbled up by the Ivys."

Sounds awesome to me.

I was also an early-write admit, but being Asian, and thereby an overrepresented minority, I don't think my race alone influenced their decision. There did seem to be middle-class white kids (note: seem, I say) when I looked at the admitted students' website; it could've been that they were special in some way. Swarthmore wants these kids on campus.

I really appreciated getting the acceptance earlier. What a relief, to have a solid acceptance from a good LAC in hand. And now that I've thought more about the possibility of spending the next four years over by Philly, I like Swat more and more. It's been bumped up on my list from #3 to #2.

whats numero uno?

so swat's sending out the letters to all us normal kids on April 1st?

I called yesterday and they said they plan to have them out by Tuesday at the latest, so if all goes well with the US postal service we should RECEIVE our letters by april 1st.

Intls get emailed

yah. I just got the e-mail (international).

Sad to say I didn't get in.

Good luck to everyone else, though. Take care.

So do you think decisions have already been mailed? Or will they mail them tomorrow?

sorry jorian :(

i think they've already been mailed probably, because all my friends and i have gotten decisions that were supposed to go out april 1 from nearby schools. only thing you can do now is cross your fingers...good luck!!!

I got the rejection letter as well :o((( Swat was one of my top choice! Anyway, Good luck to the rest of you! Hope you enjoy your time at Swat, acceptees!

Sorry for the bad news Jorian and ckakalacheva. International admissions are so tough. I really think that almost all of the accepted international students come from a very small number of schools with established relationships.

same here jorian, ckakalacheva...

astrix, I'm so sorry. I was hoping you would get in! Anyway, you will be a great success wherever you go. Good luck on Princeton and others.

thanks achat. your post made me feel better :) there's more colleges to go but swat was definitely one of my top choices

oh, astrix, I was really hoping you would get in as well.....Anyway, I believe you will succeed wherever you are going. Good luck on the rest of your applications!

I am an international applicant, but still have't received my decision email yet. Anybody same with me? Does that mean I am automatically denied?
