i haven't received anything....but i won't give up till the last minute....

did everyone who got an acceptance letter also get an email because i havent got either and am really starting to panic

I haven't received the acceptance letter via mail yet, but i got an email from Binghamton today. And I went on Binghamton U website and put my BUID and PIN to pay my tuition deposit and I was able to pay my deposit.
If you haven't got anything from Bing, I recommend you to try your BUID and PIN on the website.
I talked to my admissions counselor at Binghamton U, she told me that it's possible that you'd get your mail later and get your email first.
So don't worry.

Anybody get an additional handwritten card from an admission counselor? That's a thoughtful touch. Among other things it reminds you that "We had over 26,000 students apply this year and you are the one we want!"

I Got into Harpur too.. about a week ago =D
But im not sure About where i want to go. Right Now Im Stuck Between Geneseo And Binghamton.. Any Advice??

Deferred Binghamton....ACCEPTED LEHIGH !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! See ya.

madey189,

That is a tough decision between what seems to be the best SUNY Univerity and the best SUNY College. My son has a similar choice, he was accepted from BU and has a very generous offer from Union College. OOP costs are about the same.

I am going to advise him to go for the liberal arts college for undergrad and save the big university for graduate school.

Good luck to you, I don't think you can go wrong with either of your choices.

Waiting Dad

I can't believe that someone who makes Lehigh can actually be deferred from Binghamton.

The economy has thrown the whole college process upsidedown.

Lehigh is a great school and your kid will be much better-off in the short and long-run.

Best of Luck!

You are absolutely correct. The whole college process is upside/down this year...especially at the State schools. There is no logic regarding their selection process outside of them probably just picking out names from a box. One classmate was accepted from Cornell and another Bucknell. Both students waitlisted by Binghamton, both not minorities and both were not asking for financial aid. No clue what BU was thinking. Good luck going forward.

Usually I can see some logic in who colleges admit/reject but with the local kids Bing accepted/rejected, I have no idea what the admissions office was thinking.

accepted to Harpur!

Wooo!

Disclaimer: I am not bitter just because I wasn't admitted for fall 2009. There are several admirable aspects of Binghamton.

I was wait listed for Binghamton with a 94.5 UW avg., 1220 SAT, OK essay and stellar extra curricular activities. I was also offered a guaranteed fall 2010 transfer.

My friends mom, who is pretty high up in the SUNY system, sat down with me and had a nice little chat (before I got my decision, over the weekend). She told me that it is no secret the economy caused an influx of applications to ALL SUNY schools. She said that BU in particular is under close watch due to their policies in admissions and trying to cover up an alleged rape in another department of the university. She said that a lot of SUNYs especially Binghamton were pressed for time when reviewing apps so basically made a decision based solely on avg. and SAT scores. They failed to read most essays, resumes, recommendations, etc. This is an absolute travesty. While she cautioned that more applications mean higher selection standards, kids such as myself with a lower (not terribly low) SAT score get "the shaft" and suffer the most. Basically, my decision was probably made by Bing looking at a piece of paper with my avg, school name and SAT scores. This is not OK. Now we can't accuse them of this because its technically not proven and they have the right to do that if they want, but at the cost of potentially admitting the wrong students.

She also talked about other SUNY practices not related to admissions but I'll spare you. OK, I'll tell you one more. SUNY schools often prohibit students from applying to graduate and professional schools if the counselor has reason to believe they won't be admitted rather than skewing the undergraduate school's graduate acceptance rates, blah blah blah. Basically a student is not allowed to apply med school if their GPA is below a 3.4. Now I'm not saying a person with a 3.4 will be admitted to med school but it is their right to apply.

Next order of business: Binghamton offered me a fall 2010 "guaranteed" transfer. This is great but I have to re-apply, waste $40 for the fee and send them my final high school records even after a year of attending another college!! Ridiculous. I am no longer a high school student after a year of college. I will NOT be doing this.

Bing is a great school but it is hard to see such a school tarnished by malevolent practices that would take just a little bit of effort to fix.

Sean did you just hear you were waitlisted? D still hasn't heard anything.

I don't think any college could possibly prohibit anyone from applying to grad school; I've had to send my own transcript in recent years; you just pay a fee and some clerk in the registrar's office sends it. It would probably be illegal for a college to refuse to release it unless you owe them $$$ or something.

i still haven't heard anything either. I fear rejection and i really want to attend Bing.

girlfriend didnt get anything in the mail either today. sean--when did you hear from them?

Muffy-I just heard today. For sake of confidentiality, I don't want to list her place of employment. But she is the dean of the English department at one of the four year SUNY schools. Kids come into her office all the time upset and complaining about their law school applications being discouraged by the school, etc. She always has to intervene because even she thinks its ridiculous.

A few kids I know received rejection letters today as well.

Maybe profs don't want to write letters of rec for mediocre students, but you get that anywhere; grad school apps usually don't have to be approved by the undergrad school except for the transcript release.

Do you get guaranteed housing as a guaranteed transfer?

D was guaranteed transfer at another SUNY and they only need her grades after first semester to finalize the transfer; she doesn't have to wait till after May 2010.

Its possible.

It doesn't mention anything about housing. I would assume I do but who knows? Binghamton would probably tell me I would then send something later on saying that they don't have anything available.

Its ridiculous that I need to send my first year college transcript, reapply and waste $, and my send my final HS transcript.

do you know if they are still sending out acceptances? sigh
