RD decisions?

does waitlist = rejection?

nope, there's a guy here now (actually went to my high school) that was initially waitlisted, and then got offered a full ride scholarship. if you like the school and would come here if you could, you should send in the little card and keep your fingers crossed!

is anyone going to the DSP program on the 16th?

What's the DSP? I'm going to the Accepted Student Program(ASP) on the 17th and 18th...

BTW, I got my letter when I got back from Spring Break. Actually, my parents got it before then, but I wanted to see it myself, not hear over the phone. So excited!!!

Yeah... I'm going to ASP, too... DSP is the Distinguished Scholars Program, which is just the night before. Anyways, I'll see you on the 17th and 18th, too. =)

annchovie: do you have AIM? I really want to talk to someone else who got into Harvey Mudd. No one here(Michigan) has ever even heard of it, so there's no one to really talk to...

Any suggesitons on taking Math 11 for an Engineering Major?

I'd like to take the class anyways cuz its pretty neat stuff.

Well, it's not going to HURT you if you take it. I don't think it's particularly useful, but if you think the content is interesting, then you may as well take it. My roommate took it and her boyfriend didnt (both engineering majors) and I don't think either of them feels like they either gained or lost something by taking/not taking it. So it's up to you.

What's the difference between the Harvey S. Mudd Merit Award and the distinguished students award?

The distinguished students award, to the best of my knowledge, goes to only a specific number of students every year (or some percent of the accepted class), but the Harvey S Mudd Merit award goes to anyone that makes the SAT cutoff. I, for one, did not make the distinguished scholars cut, but I did get the Harvey S. Mudd Merit Award, which only requires a 1450 SAT or better (700 V, 750 M).

Well, the Harvey S. Mudd merit scholarship is a $10,000/year scholarship. As far as I can tell, the Distinguished Scholar thing I don't think is an award/scholarship at all. I think it's just a "Oh! We want you to come to our schools really badly, so we'll try to woo you more than everyone else" thing. . . Just my impression. I could quite easily be wrong.

I think you're right about the Distinguished Scholar thing, but the Harvey S. Mudd merit scholarship is only $5,000, not $10,000

It was only $5,ooo, but starting with this incoming class, it's $10,000.

Just for this year's incoming class? Or do all of us get the increase?

I think I read somewhere that it was just for the incoming freshmen, but I can't seem to find any of my financial aid stuff right now . . .

wait, so the Harvey S. Mudd merit scholarship is determined by a minimum SAT score? is that it? Because I had a 1510 and I didn't get anything like that...:(

no... not just a minimum SAT score is necessary. they look at SAT scores, SAT II scores, GPA, and class rank. i think...

as long as you meet the breakdown and you're in the top 10% of your high school class, you should get it. are you sure you didnt? I guess they might have changed the qualifications along with the amount, and they only have the old stuff online, so if you have a financial aid packet explaining everything, that'll break it down for you.
