Waitlisted  I can’t feel too bad though, as Swarthmore was not my first choice (which I got into!)

Good luck to those still waiting!

Thank you so much momof3sons! It is weird that they posted that great photo of the admission officers today, but the letters were actually sent on Tuesday.

Guys, could you also write where you live in addition to where you live. I was just wondering in how many days the letters reach to where… I will also be very happy if anyone knows when they will e-mail internationals??? Do you think there is any chance for me to receive an acceptance letter tomorrow since the letters were sent on Tuesday? (after 3 days…)

As a reference, I got my acceptance letter today in Dayton, OH.

Unfortunately I won’t be attending and I am telling Swarthmore this pronto, so hopefully some of the waitlisted people can get off that waitlist soon. Good Luck!!!

Rejected in Oregon. Oh well, to be expected!

Waitlisted. I’ve been waitlisted at Washigton &Lee, Colby, Middlebury, Williams, UPenn CAS, Dartmouth, and now Swarthmore. If it weren’t for my acceptance to Amherst I’d have gone mad by now haha

Why is there no RD Results thread? Can someone make one, please?

Mail just arrived in MN today, and still no decision for my D. This is stupid… Swat will be the last major college in the country to notify students of their decisions.

intparent,
I know how frustrating this must be for you. I have 3 kids and have been through this agonizing wait three times. But the “blame” that you seem to be placing on Swarthmore now should be squarely placed on your friendly US Postal Service. They take “forever and a day” to deliver to some parts of the country. I guarantee you that some kids on the West Coast have already received their letters.

Yes, I know west coast students have received their letters. And this is my second kid through the process, so we have also been through it before. That does not offset mailing late and using an old-fashioned “snail mail” approach. All of the Ivies, Stanford, U of Chicago, Amherst, Williams, and colleges like Mudd & Carleton have managed to get their responses out (either via electronic methods or mailing in a timely fashion), along with all of the other top 50 LACs. They are dead last. We are comparing financial aid offers now on her other acceptances and planning accepted student visits. Can’t complete that until Swat’s decision arrives, but I am starting to feel done with them even if she is accepted…

Well Swat said that decisions will be available by April 1, which is two days from now. Students have until May 1 to get their decision back to the colleges. While it is nice to hear earlier than the date promised, I’m not clear why all the angst about not hearing earlier than the advertised date. If your D doesn’t get it in the mail on Monday, I’m sure she can call the admissions office.

Got my letter yesterday in upstate NY. Waitlisted. :/

intparent,
Mailing on 3/26 when students are told they’ll hear by 4/1, isn’t really “late” unless the postal service is somewhat incompetent. Old-fashioned “snail mail” is how Swarthmore chooses to do it. Are you aware of what happened with Vassar College last year when they accidentally sent out email acceptances to many students who had actually been rejected or waitlisted and then had to retract those acceptances? The same thing, sending out incorrect emails, has also occurred at Cornell, UCLA, and George Washington University, among others, in recent times. I don’t have the inside scoop on this, but perhaps Swarthmore has decided that it is risky to have someone “push the button.” I realize that none of this will change your opinion of how Swarthmore does business, but I felt I needed to share some of this info for others who may be reading.

Got my letter today - my first and only rejection. Maybe it just hasn’t really hit me yet, but I’m feeling a surprising lack of bitterness and anger. It’s okay with me. If they rejected me, it’s because Swat’s not the right school for me, and indeed, I can’t say that I haven’t had some serious doubts in the past few months about whether or not I would fit in at Swarthmore (honestly, I don’t think I’m liberal enough, and I don’t recall ever using the word “heteronormative” in conversation xD). Congratulations to everyone who got in and will be a part of the class of 2017. I still love Swarthmore and will continue to wear my “Phear the Phoenix” hoodie all the time.

@cruxclaire I don’t think you got rejected for not being liberal. My entire hour long interview was about conservatism and everything worked out okay for me. Good luck wherever you go though!

The liberal comment was a joke. ;)

Good luck to you as well, and congratulations!

My D recieved an e-mail on 3/28 saying that she has been put on the alternate list which i assume is the same as being waitlisted. She is an international candidate

Hm, it seems like a lot of people are getting waitlisted

don’t know if its me or others who feel that Swarthmore seemed to give some hope to the waitlisted candidates. the way the email was worded it made it sound like there are chances of being accepted.

Has anyone in Canada received their letter - either by mail, email or fedex?

The last 3 years Swarthmore has admitted an average of 8 students per year from the wait list. The common data set does not show how many applicants were offered a place on the waiting list, but I would presume it is several hundred. So the chances of getting in off the waiting list are not good, but not zero either.
