I know that UNC has said that to be given fullest consideration for merit aid, you need to apply EA. Well I screwed up and forgot to do that, and now I'm working on my RD app.

I like UNC a lot, and I'd probably go there if I got some money, but honestly I doubt I could afford it unless I received some merit scholarship or got a significantly better-than-expected FA package. Certainly no one can count on a merit scholarship, but I'm curious as to whether it's even remotely possible for an RD applicant to get merit scholarships. I just don't want to waste my time with an app if there's no way I could afford the school.

Also I'm OOS-- SC resident

Without seeing your stats it is hard to say but being OOS and doing RD will not only make it difficult to get any merit aid but also to be accepted to UNC.

I know it’ll be hard for sure- I’m just curious as to if it’s possible. If having my stats helps, here they are:

2400 SAT (single sitting)

1/287, 4.0 GPA

SAT IIs- 800 Math IIC, 800 USH, 800 Chem

All 5s on APs

ECs: Debate 4 yrs (Captain, First team NFL member, some decently impressive awards- 1 TOC bid, 2x NFL Nationals qualifier, etc…), Cross Country 4 yrs (Varsity 2 yrs), did Track 9th, 10th grade, Co-Founder and VP of school’s UNICEF club, Beta Club President (10), Officer (11), School tutor, NHS, etc…

Essays = Decent but not incredible

Recs = Great

hmmm perfect test scores and GPA…if true you should not even have to ask

Well, I think you’ll definitely be accepted if you apply! As far as scholarships, I’m not quite sure. Did you apply for the Robertson scholarship or the morehead-cain scholarship?

Sadly, I did not. I missed the deadline-- I haven’t been very much on top of things this year haha. And yeah the stats are real-- but I know it takes a lot more than numbers, especially to get any sort of merit aid from a place like UNC.

Last year, UNC-CH had two scholarship days where I believe the bulk of the scholarships are determined. The first day was for the EA applications and the second was for regular admissions. So, you still have a chance but it is extremely competitive especially for OSS. I have heard that the EA applicants have better odds.

I also applied RD and got an invite for Scholarship Day yesterday. So yes, RD applicants can receive merit aid.
