I called admissions and asked to be re-evaluated for University Park under the Division of Undergraduate Studies, as I am OOS and want to be on the main campus. Has anyone done the same thing? If so, how long does it take to usually hear back? And are you at the same priority level as other applicants or will it be dependent upon the space? Thanks!
You are not on the same priority level as other applicants. Students without a first decision are in front of people who are coming back for their second decision.
The time it takes to hear back is variable. Some hear pretty quickly, others it takes a while. Considering that first decisions for priority applicants are due out by January 31, my guess is you won’t be waiting all that long.
What was the original major you applied for? What are your stats?
I was planning to apply for statistics and was given the 2+2 program with the first campus being Harrisburg. So this time around, I decided to also opt into the Summer Start. My UW GPA is 3.4-3.5, somewhere around there and my ACT is a 33 and that is not super scored. I think I would have gotten into College Park, but I applied for rolling rather than EA and I think that is what messed me up, but who knows. Thanks for your response.
@skol0908 not trying to be snarky, but Penn State is located in University Park, the town is State College. Very confusing, but College Park is Maryland’s campus.
It’s a shame you didn’t mark summer start. Are you now willing to go summer? Because a 3.4/3.5 may not get you into UP without summer start… even as DUS.
Yeah! My bad just mixed that up. Thanks for the correction. I asked to be considered for the summer start when I spoke to the counselor about being re-evaluated. And I feel as if my 3.4-3.5 GPA is a result of me going to one of the most competitive high schools in Wisconsin, but again who knows. I feel as if I will be a lot better off in college than some of my public school friends as I have had my butt whooped for 4 years, so if a university does not want to accept me, I just kind of shrug it off, as I know that I will do well wherever I go. With that being said, I still would love to get into the main campus. Thanks!
Ok, that’s good that you asked to be re-considered with summer start. Hopefully, that will be a factor that moves the needle.
I certainly understand that a competitive HS will prepare you well for college… I am fortunate that my kids attend a great HS. It will make a difference in your college performance.
good luck!
Thank you! I really appreciate it. It’s a marathon, not a race
