Re-takes

Colleges SAY they only consider your highest scores for admissions, but do they actually do that? I've heard that if you have a bad score the first time around, and then retake the test, and do better, colleges will still penalize/possibly reject you for getting the low score, even though you improved when you retook it. Anyone know anything about this?

I've heard people say that the general rule is no more than 3, because otherwise you'll seem obsessed. Not sure if it adversely affects you, though. But I suppose if you could get 2400 the 4th time it's worth it.

The admission officers only look at the highest scores, irrespective of how many times you take the exam. Admittedly, all of the score reports are available to them, but there is only a small chance that they will look at them.

Another point over 50% of those who take the SAT take it more than once, so if you take it 3 times, you are not alone.

Finally, please remember that schools want to see your highest scores. Just as they measure you by your scores, so too are they. The higher the scores they report, the more selective they appear. Hence, schools want you to get higher scores, basically irrespective of how many times it takes you to do it, b/c it makes them look better!
