REA Class of 2018 Applicants' Discussion Thread

@Journeyinwards - It is really nice to see that you are involved and already written 2 research papers in high school

But , you mentioned recommendation letter from a professor of extremely reputed university?
Does the professor has mentored you or anything? Also it will be of help to suggest you if you mention the exact topics of your research

Anyone know if Stanford has a media psychology major of some sort? You know, analyzing TV shows, movies, books, video games, and the common themes and all? Think TVTropes.

I’m not entire sure about Computer Science, and I might declare Psychology instead. The question is does it have a department that studies media.

^^Stanford has the top psychology department in the country and offers numerous courses with other fields in what they call interdisciplinary studies like media psychology or psychology and computer science, etc…

here is an example of a course…
[Stanford University Explore Courses](<a href=“Stanford University Explore Courses”>Stanford University Explore Courses)

You may also want to look into Film and Media Studies program…
www.stanford.edu/dept/uga/academic/programs/resources/flyers/film_media_studies.pdf

…bottom line…you can find the major that interests you…and change majors or focus of study if your interests change along the way…

…but, for now, focus completely on GETTING IN first…then you can worry about what you want to study when you get there…

@mathsoul He is from a very good uni. But, it takes a whole lot of effort to get him to even check his mail. He normally pushes things behind by weeks, which really irks me because I have to politely say “Yes Sir” to all the bs reasons he gives for which he could not see my revised work.
I have known a gazillion people who just get LORs from reputed universities because their parents have “contacts.” Their work is hardly original, the professor spoonfeeds em and guides them step by step and gives them a recommendation letter in the end. Some of them don’t even do anything but still get a LOR and project report because they have contacts.

Is Stanford likely to reject me if I don’t take Maths 2 as an SAT Subject test (I want to study Economics)?

Stanford does not care whether you take Math 2 subject test or not…see below:

[FAQ : Stanford University](<a href=“Page Not Found : Stanford University”>Page Not Found : Stanford University)

Anybody else dealing with near debilitating stress and tension about how rejection is a very real possibility and don’t feel their essays are any good and keep thinking about how much rejection would suck and can’t actually channel that stress into anything useful and basically end up just…stressed?

That made very little sense. But yah. I’m stressed.

Absolutely. I’m terrified yet I want Stanford so much. So I keep on squeezing my essays but still wonder if I’m any good.

I’m really worried. I want December 15th to come soon.

How likely is it that Stanford will accept 3 Asian American males from the same school who have around the same application in terms of GPA, test scores, extracurricular activities?

very, VERY unlikely

@omniecho…if you guys are the TOP students at Harker or Gunn which are feeders to Stanford…then good probability…otherwise…it will come down to the INTANGIBLES…the qualities that separate you from the others…we, here at CC can not divine that…Good luck!

Any thoughts on how having a sibling attending Stanford currently can affect a competitive applicant’s chances?

@omniecho do you go to my school whut is this

oh nvm you don’t but yeah stanford pls accept 3 ppl scea…

pls.

Anyone else itching to reach Dec 15th? I REALLY want to know if I’ll get in or not.

@OmniEcho
Based on that info alone, entirely unlikely. Have you 3 carbon copied each other that badly that you’re each co-President of National Honor Society and are on cross country? Looks like essays (and teacher recs) will decide who goes, or not.

I feel like my school will be kind of similar though. Each year, about 25 people apply to Stanford, 8 of them early, 75% of them asian. 2~3 have been admitted the previous two year, and I have a feeling we won’t be as lucky.

I have to disagree. Two girls from the same high school that live on the same street have both been accepted to Stanford via early athletic consideration for the class of 2018. Two different sports.

I have a 3.9 unweighted GPA, am I out of the race already?

sillyup20: You’re most definitely in the race. I’d say anything lower than a 3.7 unweighted is a risk. Anyways, if getting less than an absolute perfect 4.0 kicked people out of the running, I’m pretty sure that would eliminate about 80% of applicants.
