REA Question

Hi College Confidential. I was wondering if it would be more advantageous for me to apply REA or to wait and apply RD.

If I apply REA, I believe that Stanford will know that it is my number 1 choice and that might prove to be of some benefit. However, if I apply RD, my senior fall classes and their grades will be used as part of reviewing my application. My junior year consisted of mostly AP classes but my senior year classes are specialized (Math and science high school) and I feel as though that might make me stand out (maybe). Finally, applying REA to Stanford will be a gamble as I will be taking all my subject tests November and sending them to Stanford as soon as I receive them. I know that Stanford does require subject tests, but I feel as though they typically expect them.

So could you please give me your insight and thoughts on my current situation?

Thank you!

If I were you, I’d wait for RD…it seems like that’d be the path of least regrets.

Regarding what you said about applying early indicating that Stanford is your first choice: they don’t care at all. Stanford is the number one dream school of students and parents…it’s lots of People’s first choice. The only reason they have the program is to provide decisions to people who want to hear from then early. Unless you explicitly write, “I’d rather go to Yale” in your app, your level of interest in Stanford will have little to no impact on your decision.

Thank you very much for your reply! I think that I will follow your advice.
