are we allowed to change from 14 to 19 within the first month?

thank you so much. no need to make any more housing threads period! this should become a sticky

I agree for a sticky, at least until school starts.

This is slightly off topic, but I don't want to start a new housing thread. Anyone know anything about co-ops? It's cheap, but how is the living quality? All I know is that you have to do chores (which i don't mind).

are we allowed to change from 14 to 19 within the first month?

yes. i upgraded from 14p to 19p after a month, i had to pay a 25 dollar fine, but it was worth it considering i have to eat for a whole year. o yeah, they wont charge you for the meals you missed from upgrading..yeahh so thats good news.

about co-op, a thread already exists:

so can meal swipes be at ackerman (the same as meal swipes at dining halls)?

what is a sack lunch and where do you get them?

for premiums, how long do the meals accumulate for?

This thread gets my vote for "best UCLA housing thread."

Oh, and a sticky.

dawritingmachine,

no, meal swipes can only be used on the hill. ackerman takes bruin card (stored cash, not meal plan), cash, or credit card. sack lunches are obtained in the dining halls 7-9am. you bring your blue pepsi bag (it will be in your room when you move in) and tell them you want to get a sack lunch. they'll swipe you in and you go pack a sandwich. you can also goto the front desk and ask them to convert a swipe into a meal coupon worth like $2 that you can use in ackerman or other campus eateries (totally not worth it imo...)

premier rolls over meals until the last day of the quarter. after that, any swipes left over will be lost and you'll get a new allocation of meals at the start of the next quarter.

Can I change my meal plan at the beginning of each quarter? does the $25 apply even at the beginning of the quarter?

is 19 worth it? i plan to eat out at least a couple times per quarter on weekends. i'm sometimes not an early riser for breakfast esp on holidays/weekends.

**what's the last day to change meal plan w/o penalty??

You'll eat less than you order.. for sure, and the days for meal plan changes are really weird and... I think, very inconvenient and not helpful to the students. There's certain windows and junk. You can upgrade almost anytime, but downgrades are yucky.

so u mean that i should get a 14P instead of a 19P if i want to make my spendings worth it?

No, if you are unsure, you can get the 19P first, and then downgrade if you feel it is too much.

But the fact is that people won't need that many meals, but it also depends on your circumstance. 19P -> 14P is flexible, but not the other way around.

Does this clarify?

yeah. currently i have 19P. i'll leave it for now.

but i thought "You can upgrade almost anytime, but downgrades are yucky," says Deuces.

when do the restaurants at ackerman close???

i might need panda express at 2am...who knows?

also wut about the none dining hall places on the hill, such as puzzles? when do they close?

thanks, and love the thread!!!

ackerman closes around 10 i think. but definately not open till 2 am.

everywhere on teh hill closes at midnight, except bruin cafe is open till 2 am.

then you always have vending machines.

**do the dorms have any magnetic furniture? i have magnets but idk if it's worth it to bring 'em.

My GOD that is one inane question.

Why not come, find out, and if there is, have someone mail you your precious magnets?
