Doesn't matter FRAG is being sliced in half this Session.

With FRAG, Bright Futures and scholarships offered from the private colleges, it was very affordable for top students to attend small, private colleges in Florida up until now.

Community Colleges are now starting to offer Bachelor degrees. They can now start attending there.

the grenade :P

^^ what does that mean?

Frag grenade------>fragmentation hand grenade

so would applying for summer increase my chances of getting in for the final round?

Not to wear this FRAG thing out, but I received an award letter from one of the private Florida colleges I applied to yesterday, and the college said they would fund the FRAG dollars if the state wouldn't--or make up the difference if the state awarded a lesser amount this year. I would bet the other 27 private colleges in Florida will probably do the same. If any Florida resident students have applied to a private college in Florida, it wouldn't hurt to call and ask if the school will or not do the same thing. Put them on the spot. If the school won't do it--their finances are probably shaky and you probably shouldn't go there.

LIZARD - thanks for the tip. A small private school might be the perfect fit for some students especially if financial assistance can keep the cost down to a manageable level.

"I would bet the other 27 private colleges in Florida will probably do the same."

I think that is a bold statement. Some have strong endowments, and some have tiny endowments. To make a blanket statement like that is misleading.

For students who have a low EFC, the FRAG helped colleges from dipping into their own pockets for this $3000. For students who have a high EFC, if helped students and their families from dipping into their own pockets for the $3000.

MY GUESS: For those with low EFC', most fForida colleges will be making up for the FRAG with their own money. For upperclassmen with high EFC"s, I suspect some LAC's will still deduct that from tuition owed. For rising freshman with high EFC's, it will most likely come out of theiir families pockets.
