Reading and the SATs

Many people say that reading alot improves your SAT scores.

However, I don't understand if they mean just reading by itself, or actually analyzing the books/getting out the dictionary whenever you see a strange word. Some people say that classics are better than bestsellers/modern fiction. How valid is that?

I mean, I don't understand how "just reading" without any analysis could help one's reading comprehension/verbal SAT score.

Well reading usually requires analysis and such. Otherwise, you're correct; it wouldn't help.

I know of some books that would probably help with the SAT. They aren't that interesting, but then again, neither are the passages found in the CR section. PM me if you are interested.
