Hey everyone,

I just got my scores back from the February ACT and they were as follows:

COMPOSITE: 31
English: 31 (not too good...)
Math: 35
Reading: 24 (?!?!?!)
Science: 34

My October ACT was very similar (a little higher english but lower math). Any ideas what I can do? I am really freaking out right now because I definitely need a 33+ composite and the reading is killing me. Has anyone greatly improved their reading score?

I have the same problem. reading 24. help, help me.

The guy basically says to read as fast as you can while remembering where the details are located, not what they are. When you reach the question go back to the area in the passage where you remember seeing them and you should find them. Pretty much all questions can be found in the passage.

Believe me… I have that book and about every other one there is haha. I actually hated that review book though :p

I’m no expert, but since your current score is a 24, have you tried not doing all 4 passages and increase accuracy on three of them? The fourth you can guess all one letter, or complete as much as you can.

My strategy is to read the first paragraph, skim questions to find any I can answer, read second paragraph, skim questions again and by the second or third time I skim questions I have an idea of them so I just continue reading and if I come across something familiar I refer back to questions and answer it.

try a speed reading course.

Just as PizzaFatFace suggested, speed reading is so helpful. Stay focused as you do this or it will be pointless. I speed read for about 1:30 and then by then I have a feel for the passage and even have memorized where a few key words are. I go to the questions and breeze through. Try to absorb the question and possible answers carefully though because rereading eats up your time. You should be able to finish the passage in 8:30 minutes. It takes practice though. Also, work confidently but NOT carelessly.
