I have took the ACT 7 times and my highest score is a 27. I've made that twice now. I REALLY need help on the reading and science, especially the reading. I've tried so many strategies but none really work well for me. I have 3 ACT prep books with a lot of practice tests so I've definitely been putting in lots of practice to get my score. WOULD EVERYONE THAT SCORED A 30+, OR SCORED REALLY WELL ON THE SCIENCE AND READING, PLZ HELP ME. I NEED A 30!!! Thanks

What do you struggle on most on the reading? If its a time issue I’d recommend trying (on a practice test first) to read the first paragraph of a passage and then read the first sentence of every paragraph after (to know what its about/where a question can be found) then read the entire last paragraph, and the go to the questions.

If you make stupid mistakes, but have alot of time left (like yours truly) then reread each question after answering it (seriously, you might have read it wrong) and then reread your answer to see if it fits. (This is what helped me score 33+ on every single ACT reading test except for my first one; you wouldn’t believe how many stupid mistakes you can make!)

Science is kinda strange. For me it improved by just taking the ACT over again, and it seems like my score range can be anywhere between 26-35 (scores on actual tests in the order I took them (science only): 1st: 31, 2nd: 26, 3rd: 31, and 4th: 33). What helped me is to kinda skim the information (since I’m a really fast reader) so I can get an idea of what they are doing, but if you’re not a fast reader then skip to the questions. Also, another thing that helped me is to point to the number on the graph thats the answer as I’m going back to the question; this helped me to fix stupid mistakes.

Lastly, another thing that could help is to read a couple of science related news articles about experiments or scientific studies just for fun. here are a couple of links:
[Science World Report](http://www.scienceworldreport.com)
https://www.sciencenews.org

My ACT score progression went: 27, 27, 30, 32 so you can raise it for sure! Good luck! I hope I was helpful!

I scored a 35 on the Reading section. What I did was skim each paragraph and then write in the margin what is described or said in that paragraph. Then when a question asked about sonething, I would look at the margins for where the information is.

Thanks for the help y’all! And I saw that you said you made 27,27, 30 and that inspired me a little and made me feel a little bit better that someone did the exact thing I’m trying to do. I’ll definetly try both strategies

I got a 35 on the reading section. My advice would be to skim the questions ahead of time, typically (if I remember correctly) the questions are in chronological order, so do the specific ones as you read the passage. I found this helpful because it eliminated the time I wasted searching through the passage for a sentence/section.

Also, I think the science section is pretty volatile. I improved my score 5 points with not much learning in school in between and no prep.

@samdogg , yes I think that’s the best strategy that works for me. I skim the questions so I know what the passage might talk about and so I’ll know what I’m looking for and then I read the passage thoroughly so I comprehend it completely. These two steps take about 4 min. Since there’s 4 passages I try to limit myself to 8 min a passage. So that leaves me 4 min to answer after reading and I don’t have to look back as much
