Real SAT 2 Chem score vs. Practice Test Scores

did anyone use mcgraw hill?

^^ yeah i did. it seems alright.
so i want an 800, but none of my test scores have been that. the closest i got was 780. think i have a chance still?

I’ve been doing McGraw-Hill tests and I’ve gotten 730-760. I was a pretty strong AP Chemistry student as well, and I’m just using my AP Chem PR book to study for this. Will I probably score a bit higher than the MG-H tests?

i’ve been getting around 720-740 on the mcgraw hill. i really want a score above 750…

Barron’s: 770, 780, 770, 770

REAL: 770

Only used this prep book because I ran out of time in the end. I only took the four practice tests in the back without reading the content in the front. I highly recommend Barron’s if you have a solid background in chemistry because my practice test scores really did match my real test score. Good luck to future SAT II Chem test takers!

I got Scores of
Princeton Review: 730, 760, 770
Barrons: 790

REAL: 800 (Didn’t Get One Wrong!)

Usually practice tests are harder than the actual. But the real secret is a good Chem teacher =D

Barron’s:
diagnostic test - 690
practice test 1 - 730
More scores in progress ;)

Any predictions before the real test in 2 weeks? Is there any hope for scoring 800? I would have one less thing to worry about. Time management makes no problem for me. Additionally, i have not learned such topic as thermochemistry (and some more, im going to do this next week).

What about biology e/m? Is there any connection between practice tests and real ones? I score middle-600 on barrons, much below my expectations…

Princeton- Around mid 600- low 700’s (first practice tests I took)
Sparknotes
1st- 660
2nd-640
3rd-620
->Sparknotes tests are damn hard and IMO innacurate

Real SAT BB test- 730 (days before the actual test)

Actual- 750

You don’t need Chem AP to do reasonably well!
Study up, make flash cards of the mistakes you make, and don’t give up hope!

PR: Didn’t do
Barrons: 780
Real: 800

If you want to train yourself for the SAT Chem, I highly recommend taking the AP Chem exam (especially if you can take it before SAT Chem). AP Chem is a lot more difficult than SAT Chem and by the time you finish AP Chem preparation, you’d be a beast for high school chemistry and an 800 is almost a guarantee if you can get a 5 on AP Chem.

My stats with AP Chem & SAT Chem

Before AP prep:

AP (from Princeton Review): 3
SAT (Official guide): 620

After Prep:
AP (real exam): 5
SAT (Barrons): 780
SAT (real exam): 800

Barrons is also really good because it’s more difficult than the test but in a good way for once. You’ll be facing the same types of problems but on an elevated scale of difficulty.

Be sure to manage your time wisely, you have 60 minutes to complete 80+ questions :)

Studying for Chem sucks when you have to learn equilibrium, orgo chem, thermochemistry, electrochemistry, most of bonding, and phase changes on your own.

Any success stories from people in my position?

Expect a score around 600, assuming you must learn all that.
Why even take the test?

I used Princeton review and got high 600s with I believe a high score of 710, I then got a 750 on the test.
