First off, I feel bad that I come here only when I need answers.
But here goes:

I sent my Yale app early with SAT scores up to October.
I have gotten my November scores back, and they are awesome.
Because I was taking the test just to take it, I didn't tell Yale I was taking them.
So they don't know I took them, but I did, and I want them to know the scores now.
How should I go about this? (is it too late altogether?)

Also, because I sent Yale early, the Common App is now frozen.
I can't fix my "best scores" to be the Nov. scores, even for my regular schools.
I don't like that at all. How should I go about this problem?

Thanks so much in advance. Truly, you guys are amazing.

Is it too late to send it to Yale for SCEA? Almost certainly, assuming that you didn’t list them as a score recipient before you took the test. If you’re deferred, you could definitely send it before your application is reconsidered.

However, despite what it seems, it IS possible to change the Common App after it’s been submitted once. You need to make an “alternate version”–check the website FAQs for information on how to do that.

The critical question here is what the best SAT score before and what is the difference between the previous score and current one. If the difference is less than 100 points, I would suggest that the new score should be ignored. It is very late in the game for EA and it probably better just let the process running to its end.

I hope that the admissions people at Yale are “smart” enough to realise that there are far more important reasons for taking the ACT (or SAT)multiple times than to impress Yale with an escalating trend.

I, for one, was very happy with my ACT composit score of 31 in the first go around. And yes, maybe I should have been happy with that score if Yale was the only school that I was applying too. And yes, if Yale guaranteed that I would have been accepted I would have stopped taking test.

However, since non of the schools that I am applying to is going to guarantee me acceptance, than I have chosen what is commonlly refered to as a safety school. And yes, I feel that the ACT score of 31 was way more thansufficient to assure me accepptance to my safety school…but, like most puplic schools, my safety school is not need blind and the only way I can afford to attend this school is to qualify for academic scholarships.

If you look at the “automatic” academic scholarships at most public schools, you will see that they have minimum requirements for test.

In my case, I can earn a full ride at my chosen college by scoring a 34 or better. So did I take the test 6 times to achieve this? You bet I did!

Now I fear that Yale will frown upon my 6 test and force me to either go to one of the other 3 “superschools” that I applied to or to the public school aforementioned! Go figure!

Just to add this point to the discussion - s2lees, you know you can create multiple versions of the Common App, right? Just because it’s frozen from your Yale application doesn’t mean you can’t submit an updated file for your RD applications.

Read the information here and see if you can put your new scores in an alternate version:

Can we create two accounts? Because I’m taking tomorrow’s SAT Subject test that I didn’t plan to take, and I didn’t put it on my current common app…

^ I didn’t see anywhere on the site that said we were allowed to create two accounts…

I did SCEA for a school, and now I want to add in my scores for my RD’s… but it’s frozen…

Again, you don’t need to start a new account (if you even can, which I doubt), just make a new version with your additional scores to send to RD schools.

I repeat, once you submit the CA to a school, you CANNOT change it. The only thing you can do is email, send, FAX or call in additions.

@entomom I think they were referring to making changes and then sending it to other RD schools to which he/she has never applied, which is clearly allowed.

All of this is really helpful. Thank you so much.
I have decided, with my school college counselor, to fax the scores now.
If they have it, they’ll do whatever they want with it – consider or not, but they can’t consider what they don’t have.
I have also figured out how to make another version on the common app, so thank you so so much for that, too!
I love collegeconfidential :]

Let me get this straight because I am confused…

I know that once we submit our SCEA or ED applications to a school, we cannot change that CA…

HOWEVER, my question was…

If I don’t get into that SCEA or ED school I applied for, I can make a new CA and because I took another SAT II which I didn’t list on the original CA (the one I used SCEA for), I can just make a new CA for RD schools only…?

After submitting your first application on the Common App, you can create up to 10 alternate versions and edited anything in the application, including your essays and test scores.
