I had my interview awhile back (Exeter), and you know how they talk to the parents afterwards? Well, they told my dad that I was emotionally ready for Exeter, so my dad asked what percentage of kids applying were - the interviewer replied, "95%... oh, you mean the kids applying? I thought you meant ones who got in. Of kids applying, 5%."

What I'm wondering is if they say good things to all of the parents, or if they give you a realistic picture of whether or not they think the child will get in. Granted, I realize that there is far more to the applications than the interview, and the interviewer is not the end-all of the application decision.

So what kind of responses did you guys get?

Also, apparently both my interview and my father's interview went far longer than normal. Like, thirty minutes longer than normal. I'm wondering if this is a good sign - got any input?

Finally, I heard that tour guides fill out a report on applicants they guide. Is this true, and if it is, could anyone elaborate on it?

My bro goes to exeter and he said longer interviewer is better =) good job. my interviews so far last between an hour nd nd an hour nd half which i heard is beyond normal as well. i should knwo because the girl after me was FUMINg. we took like 30 min of her time hahaah. and well for the emotional part, i dont wnat to be mean but don’t get eaten up by that. they told me the same thing too, like oh i think ur academially and mentally ready. they told that to my bro’s friend and he didnt get in…

Tour guides do fill out reports at most prep schools. They ask how you were, how your parents were, showing any interest/arogance/special talents. How would you fit in… etc. And a longer interview means that they are either very interested or are on the fence and trying to figure out more about you. If your interview ended on a good note - then thats GREAT! Good luck to you

My interview ended with us talking about YoungLife, and Googling to see if there was a local branch (seriously. It was awesome. My interviewer was like, "So THAT’S why I’m always seeing kids around there)!

Hmm. I don’t think I did anything to make a deep impression on my tour guide. I asked about her average workload, things to do for fun, how classes went, what’s a classical degree (apparently I wasn’t the only one wondering. I heard like, two kids asking their tour guides in the waiting room XDDD). Hm.

When I asked about the tests and assessments, he kept saying don’t worry, you’re smart enough and patting me on the back.

My interviewer told me i was going to Exeter in next September, firmly, and she made some insinuations, like when I asked about integration to Exeter, she said “Soon, you’ll find out for yourself.” And she raved about me to my parents for like 30 min, interview lasted for about an hour, and she recommended a book to me while I made a simile about a book.
