I just signed up for housing now, and I got a really bad housing priority number. It's 3276. Will I have any chance of getting into 1)Deviney 2)Dorman 3)Smith 4)Kellum 5)Landis 6)Gilchrist? I got into the honors college, but since I have prepaid, I'm limited to the first 4, so I'm hoping I don't end up in Landis, since the others are free.

The community-style dorms are the last ones to fill up. You can generally get placed into one of them with a priority number of 8000. So with a number of 3300 you’ll be in one of them if that’s where you want to be housed.

You are not limited the the first four, you can pay the difference in the cost and upgrade to suite style. Landis is WAY better than those four halls (and you will be able to get in there or Gilchrist with your number), and well worth the extra $500 or so to live there. Unless you don’t want a meal plan, put that’s another discussion, right, Pasbal?

If I have the priority number 3472 is there any chance I would be able to get a room in Wildwood it is my number one choice and I heard such great things about it! I also liked Degraff, Cawthon, Dorman, Deviney, and Kellum. I just really would love to stay at Wildwood does anyone think I will be able to get my number 1 choice???

Nolette is very much spot-on in what she says. I don’t know how Florida Pre-paid works, since I didn’t ever have one of those plans, but I had originally thought that you could pay the difference between prepaid’s rate and your dorm rate- though I wasn’t 100% sure.

If you can swing living in Landis or Gilchrist, instead of one of the community-style dorms and you really want to live there, go for them instead of one of the community-style dorms. You could always put Landis as choice 1, Gilchrist as choice 2, and then the community-style dorms.

As for the meal plans, that is something that I’ll have to defer for now… Nolette and I are a couple members of the group that’s vastly opposed to the current meal plans offered, because they are complete rip-offs for the majority of people.

You can, but I want it to be a free experience, so that I can lighten the load on my parents. I really don’t want for them to have to pay for anything, especially since I have 3 younger sisters. And with prepaid, since my parents started paying for this 17 years ago, they save a lot in dorms, since they paid about $6,615 for 2 years, which is 4 semesters, or $1653.75 per semester. The cheapest option for Landis is Suite Triple with Shared Bath, which is $2865 per semester. I’d love to live in Landis, but sometimes you have to realize what’s fair and what’s not for your parents.

Wow arrozconleche, as a parent I am really impressed with your attitude! I’ve had children live in both suite and community style dorms at FSU. Yes, the suite style are nicer, but you can have a wonderful college experience no matter where you live, and everyone has fond stories to tell of their “awful” college dorms anyway, haha! My daughter chose to live in Deviney her last year at FSU to avoid having to get a meal plan, for the location, and to save money for grad school, and she has no regrets. In fact, it has made her appreciate what she has now even more. With your attitude, I’m sure you’re going to do fine no matter where you live. Have a great first year at FSU!

Didn’t reply before, but thanks fsutimes2! I agree, I think it’s something everyone laughs over 10 years from now, when they mention cold showers or leaky pipes. I think that saving money is especially crucial for me, since I want to go to law school, which is uber expensive, so I just want my parents to be stress-free about me.

Oh wait I just talked to you but this is important, make sure you keep gilchrist/landis last if you don’t want them, cause i had a not so good priority number (5000s) and i have neighbors who had even worse (7000+) and they just put us in gilchrist even though there were non honors people with less than 1000 and didnt get it. If you get in honors and put down an honors dorm, they’ll get you there.

I don’t think you understood me. I’d love to go into an honors dorm, but it would be so much more expensive, so I’m hoping I don’t end up in the honors dorm, @1question . I can’t afford anything but Deviney, Dorman, Smith or Kellum, since I have prepaid.
