I’ve been swimming since age 8 for a competetitive swim team but was not very dedicated (went about half the time). The problem is, I was decently fast, but in 7th grade I had to stop swimming because I had to study for my bar mitzvah and attend hebrew school. The problem is that after my bar mitzvah, I did not return to swimming until we had swim team signups for 9th grade, and by then, I had lost most of my technique and was really out of shape, so i was put on JV in 9th and 10th grades. Since 9th grade, swimming has consumed basically all my ffree time, yet since I started out so slow in 9th grade, I have very mediocre results. Therefore, I am worried that colleges will not like how I swam so much yet I do not have the results. Will putting down swam since 8, varsity in 11th grade lol really hurt me? Im worried because my other EC’s really suffer due to the enormous amount of time swimming takes. SORRY FOR THE LONG READ AND THANK YOU

I don't know how colleges will look at it, but I think everybody knows what a time-consuming sport swimming is. But every swimmer is not a great athlete and I can't imagine that colleges would hold your athletic shortcomings against you. You tried. Maybe some mention of "perseverence to come back" in a letter of recommendation by your swim coach or rabbi would be helpful, if you are concerned.

Are you thinking of swimming in college? If so, they don't care if you stopped for a while, just what times are you now posting? If it is to put on a list of activities, it would be neutral.
