And then at midnight they release decisions ! At least that’s what is indicated by several on other threads.
My daughter was admitted EA in December. I have no ax to grind But as a parent,
If this is true, I found this close to fabrication ( technically midnight is not "tonight?? Maybe??) disrespectful and obnoxious.
I guess they were technically not lying since they were released at midnight, but yeah that’s kind of annoying. Maybe they thought they were being crafty and applicants would have a pleasant (well, maybe) surprise. College admissions isn’t really the place for that though.
Why do I care? As a parent I don’t like the lack of maturity and consideration that I have seen from Michigan admissions. It makes me question how this school will treat its students. As someone who volunteers to help others with admissions (at my kids school) it makes me wary of how much trust to put in to U Michigan’s admission office.
@Jara123 it’s pretty simple. If that’s how you feel about the school then send your child some where else. In the big scheme of things, this doesn’t seem like a big deal whatsoever.
@Jara123 No offense, but as a kid who has been applying to college parents like you are really annoying. You think you know everything and are way too involved. You need to find another hobby, I guarantee you your kid is feeling totally suffocated and that their school that you “help out” at wants you to just butt out and let them do their job. I am not trying to be rude, I just had this conversation with my parents because they were beginning to act like you and they understood.
Jara, at this late stage, Michigan releases decisions daily. The admissions department was obviously giving a standard response knowing that only a small fraction of applicants would hear back within a 24 hour period. I don’t understand the outrage.
@alexandre. Based on what happened at our school this was clearly a large batch release at midnight. I don’t understand why Michigan would say that there would be no release when they had to know a major release was coming in just a few hours. There something about them claiming that it was not that feels dishonest disingenuous and like it’s toying with the students.
It does not change anything. They want the kids to have a good sleep insread waiting whole night for the release. Technically, they did not release that last night anyway. It was early this morning for ET.
I do not see it that way Jara. Michigan could answer one of two ways:
Not today
Any day between now and April 15.
Neither answer would please the applicant.
So it happens that your school’s decisions came out yesterday. That’s probably 2% of the total. The 98% of applicants, the answer did not come out yesterday.
However, I agree that Michigan should release all decisions on the same day, rather than over the course of 12 weeks. That would eliminate a lot of confusion and frustration.
^ If they are going to release all decisions on the same day, that means there will be no more rolling admission and the date is likely around 3/31 as they cannot finish all the process much earlier. In other words, instead having some students (mostly admitted ones) receive the notice earlier, everyone need to wait through the long process. I am not sure that would be a good thing.
@alexandre. Do you really think that’s last nights batch was not a “big” batch and that most decisions still to come? That’s not the impression I get here. Anyone else have a thought on this?
@Jara123 I have only seen a couple applicants on here who haven’t received their decisions. A vast majority of us who have been waiting got them. Last night’s batch definitely took care of almost all of the remaining applicants.
@calspeed Is it a large school? That’s odd. I wouldn’t say you’re in a bad position, maybe they’re still trying to decide which ones to accept if you’re all highly qualified…
There are approx 15 kids without a decision. 3 accepted. 2 rejected. 1 of the accepted is hoping for another school. I know of atleast 5 kids that are accepted but waiting on their 1st choices.

What do you think our chances are? Admissions said to sit tight? No decision has been made yet. I really hope a decision is made very soon.
