University of Michigan Class of 2015 Decision Release Date

Okay, so from what I can see on this board, many of you are nervous (and frustrated) about admissions decision (of course for all those people who are frustrated, please calm down; patience is a virtue). Anyways, I just wanted to provide some accurate information to clear up some confusion.
From my college counselor: The University of Michigan has informed us that their decision for students who applied early action will be released on December 17th.
This is what the University of Michigan admission office told my counselor. I attend a high school in Michigan that is also one of the most represented high school at UMich (according to the Michigan Daily).
I hope this helps! Good luck!

That makes a LOT more sense…December 23 was never the date, in my mind. What admissions staff is going to hang around that long before a major holiday, doing really important business? I imagine they’ll be around after December 17, so they’re available for questions, etc., but I imagine and “office party” atmosphere that week before Christmas - the the occasional fire being extinguished.

Thanks I am relieved a little,

But, that does not make sense to me that they will release decisions in one wave, one week before winter break, because people are going to be calling with questions when deciscions arrive.

Hopefully, UMich does two waves , releasing some on the 10th and the rest the 17th, allowing the amount of people calling to be minimized.

I just want my decision asap.

Now that Michigan had joined the Common App EA plan for doing things, I think it does make sense they release all decisions on one date - just like every other school.

Don’t Ivy League schools release decisions on one day (April 1st)? So, why is it a big shock that U of M might release all decisions on Dec. 23rd? Just be patient everyone.

^ Probably a mixture of the fact that previous years, decisions have been released at the end of October (granted, things would be different now that UMich is EA and using the Common App), their website used to say that decisions will begin to be released in November (or something like that), and the website now says “will begin releasing decisions in December.” We have a set date in mind, yet they keep pushing it back haha.

Plus, a bunch of anxious high schoolers, waiting to find out the decision that will greatly impact their future? Yeah…

^^^
Agreed. We’ll find out soon enough who is in and who is not. Whether it is the 17th or 23rd doesn’t make that much of a difference. Relax and be patient.

bigshot- keep dreaming.
everyone else- you can only believe that they’ll all be on the 23rd. Multiple other people with connections much closer than this person all said 23rd for sure. Don’t get so excited.

Ehhhh are we really going to sit and debate over 6 days? The fact of the matter is it will be out before Christmas. I can see decisions likely being released on the 17th. This will allow for a couple more days of fire extinguishing vs. the 23rd which really doesn’t leave anytime for fire extinguishing.

“keep dreaming” - lol?

no… If they had the intentions to release all decisions on the 23rd , they would of not said that decisions would be given from Dec till the 23rd, they would of just simply said All decisions would be out the 23rd, which would decrease the number of calls they get inquiring the date decisions will be released

Well obviously this is their first time on commonapp so they are gonna have to change the rules as they go. I said keep dreaming because you actually suggested decisions on the tenth which we all know won’t happen.

Now if you go to the Michigan admissions website, click prospective freshmen, deadlines, and then scroll down to the chart, it says December 23: EA decisions released. Not BY December 23, just December 23.

yeah and if you look right above that it says

BEGINNING IN THE LATE FALL, following the receipt of all application materials, including test scores, transcripts, essays, and recommendations: Decision letters sent to applicants
Admit, Deny, or deferred for April Review

“Our deadline remains November 1, and we will release all admissions decisions for Early Action applicants on December 23. We will continue with our rolling admissions practice as well, and as such we will be releasing decisions prior to December 23.”

Can anyone figure out what this means? It seems to contradict itself. Maybe I’m just tired and missing it, but I’m confused.

I know, this being CC, my source will be questioned (as it should be!) so I’ll just give that now: it’s on the umich admissions website, under the counselor tab, then “michigan highlights” and it’s in the letter on that page.

Yeah, xxCiaraxMist, this doesn’t make sense.
They seem to be saying EA decisions will be released on the 23rd.
They are also saying that rolling admissions decisions will be released PRIOR to the 23rd?!
Doesn’t that completely undermine the point of Early Action…
I agree… Totally contradictory and confusing.

Rolling Admissions enables some qualified applicants to obtain their acceptance as soon as they apply - since they are very high likely admits - thus they can get it before December 23rd depending on when they submit it.

The advantage of Early Action is that even regular applicants, those who are just regular chance of admission will be guaranteed to receive their admissions decision by December 23rd.

Had we known this, it would been suggested for most applicants to do Early Action to guarantee that they receive a decision, but for the most qualified applicants to do Rolling so that they would get admitted before December 23rd.

Had you been a regular chance of admission candidate and had applied under rolling say November 1st - you may not have heard back until April. The point of Early Action is to ensure that all types of admits get their decisions back before December 23rd.

I read somewhere that the first wave of decisions will be released on the 17th!

On the Michigan website or just a CC-based rumor?

^^^
Take a guess.

Likely CC rumor.

Of course it’s a CC rumor. Someone on the “decisions” thread said they called admissions and its most likely the 23rd, 22nd would be the earliest we could hope for.

my guesses would be 10th 17th or 23rd, but i think most likely it will be the 17th because i don’t think the admissions office wants to deal with a bunch of kids calling into the office to discuss their decision on christmas eve.
