Middlebury seems intent on moving beyond its stereotype as a language/English school, so if you do express a deep interest in science, they'd probably see you as a valuable applicant. (Don't feign an interest, though.)

Hm. There's nothing on my app that is really science-y except that I put it as my intended major on the pre-app... Is the only way to express "deep interest" through ECs?

I don't know how much weight intended majors carry, but they certainly separate you from the economics, English (that's me) and environmental studies students. Do you have any science-related extracurriculars?

As the parent of one of the six Texas kids who just got in to Middlebury ED1 (recruited athlete, 2260 superscore, good academics but not nearly as good as yours) who was heavily recruited by all the schools you listed, I would hazard the guess that you will get in one if not all of the schools. Congratulations on such a stellar resume. You deserve great things to happen for you.

One thing you might consider is how to express to whichever school your top choice is that it's your top choice. If you were an Admissions officer at those schools, you'd be looking to maximize your yield (and therefore one controllable factor in your ranking), and you might take a slightly less qualified applicant who had expressed a strong desire to attend your school over an applicant like you who will likely choose from among multiple acceptances. Maybe a letter for inclusion in your file stating that they're your first choice and why?

Regardless, I wish you the best of luck, but don't think you're going to need it.

Our school doesn't rank students either, which is intended to encourage schools to actually look at the class load/rigor. However, I am guessing that if there are grades on your transcript, anyone would be able to figure that out pretty easily based on a 4.0 scale - and most schools unweight GPA.

Thanks! I'm thinking of switching to EDII at Middlebury, so I guess that would help with the whole first choice thing. My school is determined not to do GPA b/c its private and has a whole different grading system (different letters) so it might be difficult to calculate a GPA...

I assume they send something to colleges to explain their method of assessment, perhaps when they send a school profile or something with your transcript. I believe even home schooled students need some sort of evaluative record. Then again, I don't think Reed College even gives grades freshman year.. or something like that.
