I am sick of people constantly belittling me for NOT wanting to major in something in science or business. Everyone keeps telling me that I'm going to not land a job and I'm going to have trouble paying my bills if I don't go that route.

Honestly, I find those fields of little interest and would be quite miserable if I would have to study Biology or something for 4 years, then have to spend the entire rest of my life working as a scientist. If I'm going to be paying tens of thousands of dollars for college, I want to major in something that I'm passionate about, like International Relations or a foreign language.

At the same time, I know that life is not going to be easy for me once I start looking for jobs as someone who majored in International Relations or French, compared to someone who majored in something science or business related. And in the face of everyone's comments, I can't help but doubt my aspirations and think that I should go with something more practical.

What do you think? Is it really going to be that tough for me out there if I don't go with something more practical and high-demand (e.g. not being able to pay bills, having a career with exceptionally low pay)? Does your major really matter that much to employers? Frankly, I'm torn; this is what I hear everyone telling me but at the same time, I've heard people say that you should major in something you're truly passionate about. I'm planning on going to grad school too, by the way.
