Really, what are the chances?

Vassar college is like my dream college. I'm absolutely ecstatic about it, but, be honest.. what are the chances of me getting in?

You see, I get all A's and I take high classes. My college resume list of things such as extra curricular activities and work experience and the likes is up the wazoo, especially with community service. I've signed up for the SAT subject tests for Chemistry and Math 1 (to which I am studying vigorously) and I'm going to sign up to retake the SAT's and take the ACT's.

My math SAT, I think, is fine - 650. My writing SAT is the same - 650.

It's my reading SAT that has me feeling like they won't even throw a second glance at my resume.. 520 :(

What are the chances of me getting in?

To be perfectly honest, statistically speaking its not good. Vassar has admitted people in the 1900 range before, but they usually have some unique quality (e.g. URM, athletic recruit). Your great GPA will definitely help. I applied ED last year with a 2140 SAT and a low 3.5 UW GPA (Weighted was higher, took a lot of honor classes). And I honestly did not think I would get in. But then again, good luck and try. As they say, you miss all the shots you don’t take. =)

EDIT: And the 650 math and 650 writing are both below Vassar’s avgs by a bit.

“Sixty-five percent of Vassar’s class of 2014 with a high school rank graduated in the top 10 percent of their class, and 91 percent were in the top 20 percent. Their average SAT scores were 702 on the critical reading exam, 679 on the mathematics exam, and 691 on the writing exam, with a mean recomputed high school grade point average slightly above A-minus.”

ah I’m in the exact same situation as you! I’m applying ED and I have a good GPA (4.21) really strong extracurriculars but my SAT scores are way below what they need to be. I have a 620 reading 680 writing and…a 550 math :frowning: I have been in love with Vassar forever and I will be devastated if I don’t get in but I don’t think I have much of a shot. Oh and my SAT II scores are awful. I have a 620 in lit and a 500 in French (so embarrassing…one of the hardest subject tests). Ugh is there ANY ANY ANY chance??

Here is another similar sat story:
cr 610 math 710 writing 440 (essay 8). By the way I’m retaking the exam and my writing score is utterly unexpected.
I do have a good sat II though: math II 800 physics 740 chemistry 730

with this sat scores I nearly decided not to apply but I too realized that “you miss all the shots you don’t take.”
thanks redsox9 for reminding me again.

There is no harm in applying, the maximum they can do is reject me. At least, It’s better than wondering what would have happened of my dream college.

amsiost did you apply early?

Vassar is not a “mathy” school. The person with the good writing score has a MUCH better chance than the one with the better math scores. Most of the classes rely on reading and writing skills.
