Reapplicants 2014

+1 to sincostan!

Wow. I’m kind of glad I didn’t get wait listed. I’m sorry.

Good luck to all of you. No matter what happens on 3/10 you should be proud of yourselves for putting yourselves out there again.

To give you some hope, my daughter was in your position last year and ended up with multiple, terrific options as a re applicant and is now happily attending a school that she didn’t apply to the first time around. She has said that she is HAPPY she didn’t get accepted anywhere that first year, because she was confident that where she is is a much better fit than any of the schools she applied to on the first go-round.

A friend’s daughter went through her THIRD application cycle last year and ended up with multiple, terrific options as well. She is extremely happy where she ended up.

Thanks. It helps a lot. I don’t know what I’d do if I’m not accepted this year.

Thanks for the inspiring quote, MomThree. I’ve heard similar things form other people as well. My interviewer who was an associate dean of admissions told me that they like reapplicants because it shows resilience and a non-quitter mentality. I hope it works out well for all of us, given what we’ve already been through :)

Ha resilience doesn’t even cover half of it. We’re people who’ve gone through so much pain… dramatic music plays

Yeah. We need compensation for emotional, physical, and other damages…

I’m so bored. 49 days to M10. Nothing but school work and other competitions to do. AAARRGH.

49 days!!! I have a bunch of debate tourneys coming up and some schoolwork. Yawn.

Government owes me big time…

Especially after feeding me all that school food when I “bought” my free lunch…

Haha, that would be great! School food is terrible!!

I was so ready to start a blog where I would post my school “food.”

I ended up going vegan and starting a food blog with what I cook.

Why vegan? I’ve always wondered, does that mean you can’t drink milk?

Vegans only consume plant-based products, eliminating milk, eggs, meat, poultry (why is this not considered meat?), fish, and honey in some cases. I went vegan because I was curious, but now that I know how horribly animals are treated and how badly meat affects the environment, it’s more than that. I encourage you and everyone else to fill the next 7 Mondays (including March 10 :D) with vegetarian recipes for Meatless Monday! Trust me, I’ve found so many new foods since embarking on this journey and I wouldn’t give it up for anything, maybe even prep school.

We don’t believe in animal cruelty in any area, whether for food or something else. I don’t buy leather or wool or sheepskin, but I use what I have from my pre-vegan days because I can’t afford to replace everything and don’t want to waste it. I try to avoid products tested on animals and the like, too. Veganism is not just a diet, it’s a lifestyle. Thanks for asking, and I’d be happy to tell you more! :)

Edit: I encourage you to watch this short video on the who, what, where, how, and why of Meatless Mondays!

Stargirl, I imagine that most prep schools offer vegan options nowadays, is that correct? I assume you did some research in that area before applying… One cannot live by salad bar alone! Cameokid’s school is small, yet they offer several vegan options at every meal.

So one of the schools I’m applying to, don’t want to mention which although I bet you could figure it out, has a vegetarian restaurant nearby. I think I officially have a first choice…

P.S. I just ate a cameo apple and thought of you!

Goodness, I have never even heard of a cameo apple. Will add that to shopping list!
I’m a big fan of food blogs. A friend of mine does a great one, called Eating From the Ground Up, you might like it. She also wrote a book called The Homemade Pantry… Great recipes for making things like graham crackers, pop tarts, mayonnaise (sorry, it’s not a vegan book but there are some vegan things in it…)

I love Chocolate Covered Katie. She is amazing and her recipes please the teenage boy in my house.

Wow. I checked out the Chocolate Covered Katie website. My jaw dropped so low I almost broke it. SO MUCH CHOCOLATE. I have the sudden urge to cook everything on that website.

Oh.my.gosh. That chocolate marble banana bread!!!
Thanks a lot stargirl… Now I have another reason to remain addicted to my new iPad!!!

I swear by her voluminous oatmeal trick! Definitely for the health-conscious who likes volume in their food.
