So I attended UAlbany my freshman year. I didn’t do well due to extenuating circumstances and I ended up basically failing almost all my classes. I decided to take a year off from school to better my mental health. Now I’m ready to return to school however, I’m not sure if colleges will accept me because my gpa is extremely poor. I could reapply for readmission at UAlbany however that is not something I want to do. I wanted to know if I could apply to other schools without including my college transcript and using my high school transcript since I did extremely well in high school (graduated top10 percentile.) If not, what are some other options I have? I really want to go back to school. Can I apply to certain schools as a freshman and start over? Or even do I stand a chance at getting accepted even at a community college if I apply as a transfer student? thank you in advance for your answers!
Also you’d apply as a new student. If you did well in any courses you could later try to get transfer credit. Previous grades would not affect your new GPA after acceptance from everything I’ve read. I would also want to show what productive things I did during that gap year. Even a menial job showing you are responsible enough to show up and work are big pluses.
^ There is a big difference between a medical withdrawal as shown in the link at post #1 and the OP’s situation where the semester was finished. You don’t reapply as a new student when you have a semester under your belt.
OP, talk to Albany and find out what it would take to return. Any other school will need to know the particulars of your situation (grades and the issues that arose) before they could give you an idea about admission. Good luck.
Every college that I know about requires you to list of previous coursework. If you decide not to do this,or “accidentally” forget to do so, they will catch you. There is a national database that tracks registration history to prevent financial aid fraud and also the type of action you are contemplating.
