I got into the University of Miami off of their waitlist recently, but I am taking a gap year to run and expand my business in my hometown. They allow deferrals normally, but they do not allow them when a student was accepted off of the waitlist.

Since I will not be attending school during my gap year, and knowing that college admissions get harder and harder, is there any way I could improve my chances?

I will write a secondary, solid essay about my business in addition to my very good college essay. I will also try to end my senior year with good grades, to try to slightly increase my GPA.

Due to this, I was wondering if I have a better or worse chance when I reapply next year, and what I can do to help?

My GPA is 3.17 and my SAT is 1970. After senior year, my GPA should be 3.2 or 3.225.
