Reasonable amount to spend on SAT prep books?

I'm an international student and I plan on taking the SAT and the US and World History Subject Tests in Q4 of this year. I was wondering what is a reasonable amount to spend roughly on prep material? I've heard amounts from $0 to $10000.

If its possible, it would help if anyone can recommend any existing publications as well :). I already have the Official Collegeboard SAT Study Guide, and Barron's Aiming For 2400.

Thanks!

If you’re only talking about books and maybe software, I don’t see how you could really spend more than, at most, a couple of hundred dollars. You might–just might–want two books for each test. Depending on where you live, they might have these books available in a public library, or in a used bookstore.

Would you think $200-300 is reasonable? And I tried my local library, but the only books they have are the SAT for primary school kids (An unrelated test in the UK with the same name).

The only book you need for the SAT is the College Board Blue Book (which you already have) and copies of both volumes of Direct Hits.

For subject tests, one prep book for each subject will suffice. I spent less than $100 on SAT/SATII review materials and my scores are quite good.

Check the Internet for any free resources. Also, try Amazon for used prep books that are essentially the same thing but cheaper.
